Melodramatic BS that only works because of Big B and Hema looking great for their ages. Laughable cameo by Selmon Bhai- what was up with his voice?!

Having said that, abandonment of senior citizens is a very real problem in India.

That’s because they haven’t prepared themselves for the changing times and the way things are moving at a supersonic speed. Its getting better hopefully. People need to prepare themselves for their old age right from their youth, so that they are not in for a shock when the time comes.

The film is one of many remakes of the 1937 American classic Make Way For Tomorrow (Orson Welles declared it the saddest film he's ever seen) based on a 1934 novel - The Years Are So Long. It takes place during the American Depression. The most acclaimed "remake" is Japan's Tokyo Story (1953) though it's loosely based on the story.

I haven't seen this version but reading the Wiki plot synopsis this has a far happier ending than several versions I've seen which either end in permanent separation or death of one. The common denominator - their kids are all spoiled selfish shits.

shows reality of the 21st century

parents waste all their money on kids education and upbringing and are left penniless in old age

unlike a us/uk where parents send kids off home after school

kids in us/uk are expected to work after school and sponsor their own education and living unlike india/asia where molly coddling takes place by parents till 25 years or till adult kids get jobs

adults themselves majority have no jobs as population is huge how will kids find job after school that also is a question

so indian kids are pampered by parents late into adulthood till 25-30 years and taken care off everyway

In return parents expect kids to finnacially support them after retirment or in old age which very few do

majority kids nowadays consider parents home like another hostel just take all benefits and walk away once you get a job

i am saying this despite being on this gen

i have never seen any country parents being so much involved in kids future as a indian parent

especially their sons education parents sell off propery/jewellery etc everything to fulfll their dreams

in recent 10-15 years parents have started investing in daughters educationto like a son but in less percentage - when the decision is whether to sponsor son or daughter its always sons that gets sponsored

majority people earn barely enough to meet their needs

so even if they had no kids education to sponsor they will not have money to save given high cost of living in cities

middle class and lower middle can hardly have bare minimum to meet their needs how will they save for old age

its only rich who can afford

even aphd lecturer in a city like mumbai/bangalore is hired on contract for 10k per month salary

very few get govt jobs with high salary and perks

very few are in high paying jbs like IT/doctor etc

My parents are smart. They always knew I'm not trustworthy so have done their retirement plan already.
