Raj from DDLJ Vs Kabir Singh - Who was a better lover?

Raj was a pervert, molester and eve teaser, apart from being a misogynist. He thought women/daughters are an object of the father. So he needs to take the permission from Simran's father before taking her otherwise it would be wrong. Doesn't matter if Simran is forcefully getting married by her father. She doesn't have the right to make a choice for her life partner on her own.

Consider the fact that even Simran's mother was allowing her to run away with Raj, but he disagreed, because it was her mother, a woman giving the permission, and a woman's opinion has no value according to him.

Kabir Singh on the other hand, was an asshole. But he wasn't a misogynist. He treated everyone like shit including women. He didn't discriminate women specifically. People only remember that one slap which he gave to Preeti but forget how many times Preeti slapped him in the movie. An MCP would never let a women do that to him.

The one time he slapped Preeti, there was a reason for it, even if you still consider the act of slapping wrong. He was frustrated because of Preeti acting like a damsel-in-distress. He didn't want Preeti to just be a trophy for which he's going to fight with the whole world. He wanted Preeti to stand there right with him and rebel against her family.

Preeti was a spineless woman and so was Simran, but Kabir called out his girlfriend's spinelessness while Raj didn't.

Kabir was trying to help Preeti become a strong independent woman.

While Raj was seeing Simran the same way her father does, incapable of making important decisions because she's a woman.

So who really was the better lover?

Thank you for saying this👍. Everybody hates on Kabir just fir that one slap and ignore his remaining personality. Sure ,that slap was wrong and it should not be excused. But, he also loves Preeti so much that he wants her to be independent and self reliant. He says clearly that he’s ready to fight the world for her but he wants her to do the same for him, and cut the family drama crap.
Raj is a degree fail, living off on his fathers money .

I wouldn't even place Raj in the same category as Kabir Singh. Yes, there may be some scenes in DDLJ that raises red flags but in that case, most heroes in the 80s-90s can be considered misogynist and creepsters with their attitude towards women and their stalker-type-wooing skills.

Had Simran not valued her families opinion about her marriage, then I am sure Raj would have happily eloped with her. Taking into consideration that Simran holds great importance to her values and family, Raj knew that in the long-run Simran would not be happy without her parent's acceptance. In fact, I respected that Raj did not try to run away and rather chose to face the situation head on. Raj felt that his love for Simran was true and did not consider the relationship to be something that should be ashamed or hidden from her father.

Let's be real. Even if the mother urged her daughter to run away, reality would be that her father would have disowned Simran and forbidden the mother and sister from having any relations with her. No one in this dynamic would have been happy with the situation. Also, standing up and challenging the fathers traditional views gave precedence for the younger sister to stand up for herself in the future as well. It helped open the fathers mind towards love marriage and at the end, all is happy. 😆

Kabir on the other hand was a complete and utter assbag. He was possessive, controlling, and both verbally + physically abusive. He also had major anger management issues, lack of impulse control and despite being a surgeon, endangered many of his patient's lives by performing surgery whilst intoxicated. He also dealt with his problems by engaging in drug and alcohol abuse. Regardless of whether Preeti was spineless or not - the question is asking who is the better lover.

For me, Raj is by far the better human-being let alone a lover.

I think this must be the weirdest comparison topic on this forum.

Par for me it's Raj, IMO he was a better person than KS. That stupid eve teasing scene wasn't Raj's entire personality, it was a part of him. And honestly, 90s k according it was apparently 'charming'. He was all about getting Simran's parents respect in the second half and wanted to show that he was actually worthy of her.

Now, KS on the other hand was an utter douche. That was his entire persona. Controlling, self-destructive and abusive jerk. Guy needed a rehab and therapy more than Preeti.
