Yes, it is going to change. Educated, upper middle and middle class people in the age group of 21-40 around me are increasingly disenchanted with the movie "stars" and are viewing things in a very different manner. These are the people who spent money every week to watch movies in a multiplex. People are clearly seeing through how certain actors are being shoved down our throats as being the bestest and greatest. 2020 is truly going to be a watershed year in many ways and I hope this leads to some positive change, although it's at the cost of a bright and young mind passing away😭

This will pass. Majority of people calling boycott are doing it now; but where are no movies to boycott, theaters aren't even open. It doesn't affect their life or call for any actual action until theaters open.

like someone mentioned, Salman khan had gotten into so much legal trouble yet has that affected his stardom at all, all these years. Everyone knew about it.

Like I said, it's easy to scream boycott when you don't even have the option to go to the theaters. Bollywood is one of the most accessible means of entertainment for the common Indian man. Even holidays have been tied to the release of a film.

Let's see what happens once this Covid era returns back to normal and theaters open up.

I agree with you.

People have nothing else to do in their life right now that's why they are complaining so much. The moment threatres start, the star kids movies would be first to be sold out. Same people will compare their movies to master pieces.

There may be a certain section of the audience that is disillusioned with film stars currently but sadly it won't and already hasn't lead to significant positive change. The vocal audience is more focused on spreading negativity around those they don't like rather than uplifting the ones they say they want to support. We have had several well-rated films with strong talent release recently (Lootcase, Raat Akeli Hai, Bulbul, to name a few) but none of them have received mass support like the current campaigns.

Also if people are claiming that they thought certain actors were the best because of the media, then they are essentially saying that they have no mind of their own when they go to watch movies. That's definitely not the case but if we assume that to be the reality, then there will certainly be no change because the media will continue to have hold over their minds and can control the narrative however they choose.

As insensitive as this may sound, I hope not, because a lot more underlying issues need to be pointed out and 'tackled'. There are more dirty secrets that need to come out. And even though we're all screaming about no meritocracy and lobbying, we are yet to see actual change in real life, post-Covid. It should get worse.

Just to be clear, I'm talking about real people around me. I won't even consider the trolls spewing venom on twitter and insta because we don't know if there are any real people behind those accounts. They could very well be bots.

Regarding your point on a certain narrative being fed through media, it's real. Even educated and literate people fall pray to it. We have seen that happening in Sushant's case where malicious blinds were put out and people believed in those blinds. It's real, it happens. Difference is that I have now seen people taking a step back and analysing whether a particular kind of narrative is being fed or not through such articles.

I agree that the media can drive certain narratives and people can fall prey to it but historically it has not affected the actions of the movie going audiences. Sushant is the prime example. He was targeted by a certain section of the media, ignored by some interviewers, etc yet he went on to deliver his biggest hit in Chhichhore. The media can surely form impressions but most people are either not paying attention or bothered enough to let that affect their movie decisions.

You know even before Bollywood got assailed by this tsunami esque wrath stirred by SSR's demise, I realised during quarantine period that today's BW has little to offer, I mean I could hardly sit through a single BW film without fast forwarding it, while it might just be a "me" problem😆 I feel the irevocability of the industry's tarnished or more like shredded image wali situation is evident bcoz the problem lies in the fact that it lacks substance.

BW film & music industry is struggling immensely to showcase originality, 90% of the content that comes up is rehashed crap, Irrespective of BO collections I fail to recall a film that had cultural impact in last 5 years or so, maybe except for Kabir Singh lol which again is South remake.

With Khans being in their last leg as lead hero, there is literally not a single actor in young gen to whom Superstardom baton can be passed onto. Akki the old gen Superstar who is relevant never really comes a up with a single memorable performance or role. HR rarely does movies, War for all its glory & BO records hardly paved its way in ppl's heart or mind.

Heroines ki baat hi chaddho, ek bhi dhang ki hai hi nahi who could considered even worth rooting.

With ppl being exposed to OTT, HW , south films etc & covid nd uproar against nepotism & mafia culture of BW simply adds to injury of the already kicked n beaten down industry. So no I dont think the things will ever be the same for BW & it would continue to see all time lows time to time.

Not to mention the gatekeepers of BW have made sore enemies in the form of bhakts😆who go unopposed in every which way lol.

The world is at an all time low and you talk about Bollywood?

Creativity in totality is at an all time low, not just Bollywood. Keeping aside Malayalam cinema and tamil to an extent, most of the content being churned out in every industry is pretty trash. Same goes for what we are seeing in the digital space and same for the youtube space. There's a huge burnout happening.
