Well being born in New York thats as much part of who I am as Pakistan.

Why don't you reply, "I'm an American citizen. Isn't that enough?"

An American is an American no matter their skin colour, right? So why do people still ask such questions?

It's a problematic question that gets tossed around pretty casually by people around here--especially if you aren't Caucasian, you'll almost always be on the receiving end.😵

I think I answered your question in my other reply where I quoted you. If you're not white, there will always be one or two people making follow up questions, trying to drill down to the third degree... to know where you REALLY came from. 😆

Obviously it's problematic, but it could also be a getting to know each other exercise for some. Depends on how much weight you give it by taking offense or not.
