Speaking about mass appeal strictly... Katrina always attracted the masses since welcome and namastey london in 2007, which peaked with sheila ki Jawani.

So Katrina leads followed by Kareena Kapoor as 2nd and Priyanka Chopra 3rd....from 2007 till 2011, followed by DP on 4th.

Dp started rising from 2012 and became number one in 2013. Kareena dropped to 4th due to the hiatus or break or marriage.

Then from 2013 till 2015..DP, Katrina and PC lead the tops respectively on first three, although PC started fading slowly. PC then left BW and Kareena came back to the picture.

Being successful - everyone is in their respective fan mindsets and based on the long career span they all had.

As for me- PC and Bebo leads equally, followed by DP and Katrina equally.

Not to forget the span of career as a lead role rather than awards, fan base, mass appeal or being number one, is the key factor in finding out who is more successful.

Coming to fan base that makes them successful- depends on critical acclaim (performance)👏, class act👍🏼, mass reach😉 together.

Kareena Kapoor- she became top with JWM in 2007, however could not capitalize due to Tashan (mass reach) flop, followed by Kambakth ishq (class act) and agent vinod (class act) flop. she gained some momentum with golmaal series and 3 idiots, but roles were not memorable, with major miniscule cameo roles and item songs. Her heroine (critical acclaim) although was better, she could not capitalize. Later she became part of big hero ticket films (bajrangi, raone)

Priyanka chopra.. rise to top in 2009 majorly due to fashion and dostana, could not capitalize. Although she went top notch critically (perfomances) with kaminey, whats your rashee, saat khoon maaf and barfi... she lost out on class (teri meri kahaani, pyaar impossible, anjaana anjaani) and mass reach (zanjeer), although she tried best in Don 2(class act) and Agneepath(mass reach), her roles were not significant. I would say she got some mass appeal with Gunday and Ram chahe Leela and class act with Dil dhadakne do before she moved to HW.

Deepika Padukone- this is where Deepika got lucky, and also with hardwork she earned.

She rise to top in 2013 - with backed up success of cocktail(class act and critical acclaim), Yjhd(class act), mass appeal (Ram leela and chennai express). She could capitalize as she had everything in one year. She later had mass reach (HNY, although partly), class act and critical acclaim (piku). Hence she continued to reign until SLB took over her time.

Katrina Kaif... had mass reach mainly due to mass numbers which only got better until Thugs of Hindustan, although Zero (Husn perchaam) made up for it. She tried performances with rajneeti, phantom, jagga jasoos, fitoor which didnt really help her much, but mass reach increased, especially with ek tha tiger, dhoom3 and tiger zinda hain . Class act (znmd, baar baar dekho, jab tak hain jaan) didnt help her much.

Yes Priyanka for sure peaked in 2009, but then the numerous flops thereafter impacted her negatively. I would say mary kom and barfi were big turining points for her

Call it biases, PC has a most potent legacy among all atm. She had no success to some extent, have a critical acclaim, memorable roles, outshining other actresses when in same frame, and exploring unknown places like done never before.

Personally,I would value experimentation to be a more valuable trait over success by playing safe.
