They were so busy trying to justify Karna they completely lost the essence of the original character. TBH, they did the same horror with Krishna. Nuance seems to have been beyond their capabilities.

Aham was actually a better choice for Arjun IMO. He had that internalizing quality which Arjun had. Plus, he'd have looked better with Pooja. Shaheer was too chocolatey to be believable as a warrior. Plus, he couldn't act to save his life.

Bold : Face of Panchali, yes but only for people on sm especially the one in their late teens I would say.

Italics : well itv or even movies the writing & characters they mess up in name of creative liberty is something i dislike, but again many aren't aware of original texts and take these filmy presentations as ultimate truth, That's another topic all together again

Underline: agree, Arjun, nakul and sahadev were the most misfit casting, in an otherwise perfect cast. Vin atleast had looks back than but Shaheer and other guy were complete miscast

The KMG version is free to read on Sacred Texts website. But be warned: it has a lot of interpolations. Still, the Panchali in it is a scholar, a minister, a forceful woman, not the stubborn chick shown by BRC or the weepy woman in Star version

Thank you so much for replying I just checked that title is not available in my country 😭

Can you share what are the differences in the TV adaptations and Vyasa Mahabharat if you do not mind

I agree with you . I did not even watch the show but I seen clips where draupadi was insulted in the court, the performance Pooja left me spellbound and I still feel goosebumps if I watch the scene . This is coming from me who has not even watched the whole show. The rage, the tears everything was perfectly portrayed, the walk she did after telling everyone in the court how wrong were they and how they will regret was splendid. She is a queen. I have heard when the scene happened everyone in the sets were in tears because of her performance and they had to stop the shoot for sometime. I don't think I can ever forget her performance ( it was that good). Whenever I read anything about draupadi it is her face I visualize I don't think anyone in Bollywood can replace her and even match her performance. She deserves to be casted in Mahabharata which is happening ( she is perfect for the role but anyway that is not happening), I will better sit and watch her performance as drapaudi again in hotstar then going to theatres for this Mahabharata.

I think to some extent ankusha Shetty can match her because I have seen arundhati ( ankusha was damn good with the rage scenes) but Bollywood no one can

Too long to.list.

There is a FB group called Indian Epics. It's members only, so you'll have to ask to join. But it's worthwhile.

I think anushka shetty can be draupadi she has the presence of a queen

Prabhas can be Arjun (because he can pull off warrior role)

Make Ranveer Singh Dhuryodhan (after Khilji act)

Hrithik as Karan

Beeshma can be Amitabh Bachchan

Rekha should play Kunti

Ganga should be Sushmita Sen

I feel that girl is made for mythological shows.I first saw her in Kaali..although I left that show after few months but she as Kaali stayed with me.She was flawless n den I watched her in Mahabharat(bcoz I was so in love with her acting that I searched for her previous shows). She was exceptional as Draupadi.Very very powerfully played.I won’t say whether anybody will be able to surpass her as Draupadi or not but she surely was great.

A regular woman wouldn't be able.to do either. Panchali clearly did according to Vyasa. That doesn't mean she could actually kill the men.

But she could at least maim him or show that she is not an abla naari.... But that is what she did, she lured him so that Bhim can kill him.....it's also shown in old marathi movies....

No. As per both KMG and Critical Edition (CE is the accepted version), she did knock down both Jayadrath and Keechak. She didn't lure Keechak either. She just asked him to go to the dancing hall for a meeting, and Bheem was lying in wait.

Problem with movies is this: they focus on dramatics and not on nuance and context.

Jayadrath was trying to abduct Panchali. She threw him down and yelled for Dhaumya, the old priest who accompanied Pandavas and Panchali to exile, for help. Then, Panchali was abducted, and Dhaumya ran behind the chariot. How much maiming did she need to do? The point was to escape.

With Keechak, he wasn't trying to molest Panchali originally. He actually proposed marriage. She refused; he caught her physically. (Editing to correct myself) She threw him down and ran to the king to put a stop to it. Keechak did kick her in the presence of the king and Yudhishtira. The king refused, saying there were no witnesses to the original dispute.

At the time, there were more days for the exile to end. She had 2 choices 1) succumb to Keechak to keep their secret 2) Kill him. Her husband, Yushishtira, actually told her to put up with it🤢, signalling they'll get revenge after. Instead, she chose #2. It was partly a political choice.

Neither incident was the time to make a feminist statement. When she had the luxury of debate, she talked more in terms of justice and duties of rulers, not man vs. woman. Which makes sense since she herself was a ruler.

Don't go by movies. KMG version of Mahabharat is available online at Sacred Texts website. Critical edition, which is the one scraped of most interpolations, has English translation which you can buy. Most movies are wrong. Most shows are also wrong.

The last leading Bengali actress who had fascinated me was Mimi Chakrabarty.

South Indian actress. Search her up. I really like her in Fidaa.

Not just Rupa, actually all the main characters Arjun, Krishna, Shakuni, Vidhur, Duryodhan, Bheeshma, Karan- cannot imagine anyone else...Part of the reason why I couldn’t watch the SP Mahabharat ....
