When the safety of others is in question, yes, we should stop doing this. Containing the virus is top priority and while this act by itself will not spread the virus, it had the potential because of how the event will be treated.
Modi clearly said during the self-curfew to clap from your balconies. That implied not leaving your area of residence. Indians didn’t listen then. What hopes are left for people to listen now? Add the WhatsApp crap that will get forwarded from now to Sunday. It will needlessly excite people and cause them to push India one step back. After the increase in cases over the last few days, is this a proper step?
If he wanted to do something positive, he should have told people to light a lamp inside their home and post tweet it out to him. Or light a lamp inside their home and think about every other Indian doing the same. Share photos with each other, etc.
India is going to light up. But people will want to take pictures. They won’t get a good picture from inside ... so outside they will venture.
Again, I’m really hoping Indians won’t fark this up given how serious COVID-19 is proceeding. But I don’t have high hopes based on recent events.
