Finally saw Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, and boy, was the movie a cringe-fest. The love story was so inauthentic and contrived. Alizeh is simply a plot device whose existence serves to tell the audience Ayan's story of unrequited love and heartbreak... in Ayan's voice. Ayan's character comes across as solipsistic and myopic. It can be argued that those wallowing in unrequited love, especially man-children of a certain type, have the tendency to drown in self-pity. Unrequited love is a very selfish kind of love, where the other person's perspective becomes unimportant. But somehow this came across as a bit excessive in the movie, to the extent that Ayan was a bit creepy.

The saving grace were the performances, especially Ranbir's. What a powerful performance! Absolutely convincing as the heartbroken lover, there was not a single false note in his performance. Truly he is a chameleon when it comes to taking on roles....he just slips under the character's skin.

Does anyone actually like this movie? I would really like to know your opinions...

Alizeh got cancer cause she wouldn't reciprocate that creep's advances. Straight from the horse's mouth. He 'punished' her for having free will.

After this amazing tidbit about the movie from the director himself is there any point even discussing it.

Ranbir is a good actor but even he couldn’t save this shitfest. The story was shit from start to end and then Anu single handedly pulled it down further. Music was it’s only saving grace, especially Channa Meraya.

Minus Aishwarya and the self respecting Saba, the movie was terrible. By far the saving grace of the film. So good she was!

I'm his fan but I absolutely hated the movie besides his terrific performance and RanAish chemistry and obviously the music! I was wishing for Ayan & Saba as the endgame. The close-up shots of ADHM and he took Channa Mereya to next level.

That character was sooo unlikeable and cringeworthy cartoon. Any other actor in RK's place would've ended up hamming like no tomorrow and gone beyond OTT. Kudos to him for handling a character as annoying as Ayaan so nicely and making it tolerable to an extent. Hallmark of an actor par excellence.

Anu ki acting dekhe laga use ya Alizeh ko high BP. The way she talks in one breathe was so annoying. 😆

Kjo wrote the script in 7 days before the shoot begun so you can understand why the film turned it out so bad! Sometimes even good music and great performances can't save a movie. ADHM was one such movie & plus horrible characterization of main leads. 🤓

However I do feel the main plot had potential to make it into a good romantic drama only if a credible director handled the film instead of BaeJo.
