I'd blame Vikrant Massey for its failure. He couldn't be the next Vicky Kaushal as craycanes expected him to be.

Like when people talk about giving the actors credit for Bajirao and padmavat, I always mention that Slb is a major factor for those movies being hits

That's my personal opinion, if you think differently about it then that's fine

I knew this woman wasn’t a good director. They gave her filmfare best director award for Raazi but look what she can do

In this movie, he had no opportunity to shine considering the content of the movie as well knowing its co-producer who has the habit of making everything about herself.

Not surprising, it happened again.

The association itself was doomed, at least for Massey...

Vikrant should get his own Uri...He is definitely a good actor, deserves an author-backed role and a movie of his own. He'd outshine many Bollywood superstars effortlessly...

If it’s meant to be it’s meant to be. 😂

The whole JNU thing backfired (if it was a PR strategy) badly. 😵

In today's political climate, it is better for actors to stay as far as possible from political issues. Sad, but true.🤔

Having said that, the film was very weak in terms of storytelling and direction.

Deepika's performance was great as usual.

Obviously, a certain section is making it about her acting abilities, BO pull just to rile up her fans, and her fans are easily giving in.😆

Just a minor change in ur text in bold.

Actors should stay as far as possible from political issues with their half baked knowledge..they r not aware of the circumstances that led to protests and counter reactions..just to appear liberal, rational and modern they support such things..but half knowledge is dangerous

@bold: Every citizen be it the actor or otherwise, should keep themselves abreast with the politics...

However, the people of influence should do it responsibly because everything they do becomes a statement and can create a lot of impact....An actor/artist’s first responsibility is towards the art that they were representing, their personal opinions etc notwithstanding....

Art should be kept clean if one were to send out a pure message through it which is where Deepika has faltered...Even if her intentions of going to JNU were pure, the timing was wrong....In keeping the bigger picture in mind, in keeping the acid attack survivors in mind, in keeping the hard work of all the people who made the movie in mind - she should’ve not set out on her own like that and hijack the whole conversation...She is not a new kid on the block to not know the repercussions of her actions and since she has done it knowingly, she is ought to get all the brick bats!

(But I would say Padmavati suffered, not because of protests, but because of ban in certain states). Deepika's JNU visit did not add or take away anything from Chapaak's fate.

Probably many people could have predicted the future of the film. But they must have been afraid to spell it out, as the content was sensitive. I think Deepika was mislead and she became overconfident about the movie.

Exactly.. audience watches a movie on its merit.. Indians r sane enough to take their own decisions and not get swayed by extremism..also they get the intent, genuine concern vs opportunism..

Dangal worked and Aamir is still a well respected actor for general public. VDW worked inspite of having favorite target of the trolls as leads..we see a crowd outside Mannat and immense love for SRK on his birthday even after Dilwale and other movies flopped.. people don't watch his bad movies but still love him..same with Salman, his latest aren't that successful but he is still loved..

Basically..good movie will work and bad wouldn't.. Indian audience is smarter than its media and movie critics
