The whole JNU thing backfired (if it was a PR strategy) badly. 😵

In today's political climate, it is better for actors to stay as far as possible from political issues. Sad, but true.🤔

Having said that, the film was very weak in terms of storytelling and direction.

Deepika's performance was great as usual.

Obviously, a certain section is making it about her acting abilities, BO pull just to rile up her fans, and her fans are easily giving in.😆

I beg to differ. The Veere Di Wedding team also miffed BJP and Hindus with their support to the Kathua rape victim but the movie went on to be a hit.

Deepika fans are funny cause when Dilwale was struggling they were quick to say that the movie not performing well wasn't due to SRK intolerance comment, but to BM being better. What changed ?

That time, Deepika took advantage of the difficulties encountered by someone one can consider as being her mentor. What goes around comes around...

and honestly, though i feel bad to see it, i have no inclination to defend her as her PR move to go to JNU have left me in shock and anger too......

Going to jnu was the only applaud worthy, human thing in all of this

Great move Deepika, keep stand for justice & humanity regardless of religion.

Person who miffed the right wingers most was Amir Khan with his India leaving comment and his film Dangal was a blockbuster. This time during Thugs of Hindustan, he did not raise any controversy, still it tanked. Giving credit to controversies for film's success/failure is laughworthy. (But I would say Padmavati suffered, not because of protests, but because of ban in certain states). Deepika's JNU visit did not add or take away anything from Chapaak's fate.

Probably many people could have predicted the future of the film. But they must have been afraid to spell it out, as the content was sensitive. I think Deepika was mislead and she became overconfident about the movie.

Most sensible comment in this thread.

Yes if the movie is well made, the paying public don't even have these controversies in mind in order to decide to buy the ticket or not just bcoz xyz star had ABC standing about a political issue.

At that time, the divide was not so much.

Only hardcore nationalists (who are obsessed with hindu-muslim politics) were miffed with VDW cast.

The victim was a small girl, who was horribly murdered and raped. Any human with sane mind would've supported the victim in that case.

Also, VDW was an out and out commercial film with huge urban mass appeal.

Chapaak's situation is very different. Youtube India is flooded with videos discussiong Chapak, Deepika & her JNU visit. The divide is too loud and heavy this time.

I feel bad for Laxmi Aggarwal. She deserved better,

Usually. But a movie with such an off beat subject like Chhapaak would have a hard time with controversies. Maybe before the age of social media. Now filmmakers can't afford to anger the Bhakts. Plus Meghna's style isn't strictly commercial unlike say SLB's. No appealing songs for one. And the script from what I read from the reviews wasn't tight enough.

Too early to call flop! Even if it turns out to be, I'm not at all surprised. It's a sensitive topic dealing with a harsh reality, most audiances watch films to escape reality... Still applaud her for shinning a bright light on this topic ❤

MY twitter account is locked ..so here I am.

I am trying to tell people Deepika is gone..she is not all that..move on.

But,no! I get to see her stardom in all its glory in the last 2 days.

Fans are just bystanders nudging the haters along and they are getting more frenzied.

It is too beautiful, not to write about.

Carry on !carry on!

I believe each of them have done their roles perfectly.

Meghna , Deepika, Atika have given their whole to the film. They have given the subject importance. It is treated with sensitivity, not once does the story force you to react with usual jarring BGM music tactic.

This movie is beyond BO . Deepika is unreal in the film, in fact u do not see DP in the film, it is Malti from the very first scene where she enters without any hoopla. She has surpassed Piku and Tara for me.. especially the way she makes Malti so endearing and showcases her innocence and also emotes in the emotional scenes. Dialogue delivery is also so perfect. She surrenders herself to the role and the impact is real. You cry and laugh along with her.

Vikrant and Dp share a wonderful chemistry. It is beautifully captured and it is lovely to see a lovestory like this.

What failure? I felt, chhapaak is an informative and entertaining take on acid issue. How much should it take for a hit tag? From what I heard it needs 40cr for 'hit' tag , 9 cr recovered from satellite rights, weekend looks 20cr. So 40-9-20 = 11 crore to be a 'hit', which is very much possible.

For the actors Deepika, Vikrant and the actor playing lawyer have done exceptionally well

For the cause, it has a positive impact created awareness, uttarakhand govt giving pension to survivors

Personally I say it is one of the movies which changed my perspective

I had seen many videos on acid attack survivors and even seen some of them in real life. I always looked at them with sympathy, I would always think 'what might be her story?' and this movie made me realise how wrong was I and how uncomfortable they might have felt with my gaze🥺

This really changed my perspective

I really loved the tone of the film how the survivors craved for normalcy in their life.

A big milestone cinema in Bollywood as per me✌️🙏
