He got an accidental hit with Wanted and stuck to to masala like superglue. No other genres, no characters, no stories. All readymade masala hits, remakes and franchises for too long. How he managed to turn Race franchise into a disaster also.

Salman got overconfident with his decade of masala dung and started writing the story, lyrics, singing songs when he has no talent. Simbba didn't have a megalomaniac behind it.

Masala genre is probably dying now. It's been over 10 years. Cycle is probably over. Everyone else who has masala movies in the pipeline should abandon ship now. SRK-Atlee is a bad idea now too. He waited too long to do southie masala. Peak was 5 years ago. Simbba maybe dead cat bounce.

Oh, and the current historical/period movies (that are coming in the wake of Baahubali movies -hardcore masala movies), is the new manifestation of Masala genre.

Salman's downfall started the minute he started working with his useless bezorgar family members doing crap movies again.. ie: the minute he fired Reshma. Reshma was the reason his family and other close friends in need were unable to get to work with Salman for so many years... the reason for Rehma Salman fallout was because his family members complained to Salman that Reshma was vetoing their bad scripts and other ventures they had come up with to make money using Salman. Heard Sohail is heading SKF and Salman's talent management company these days.

It is too late for a comeback Salman's bad desiscion already sealed his fate, even his most of his hardcore fans had alread lost hope or they are on the verge.
