After 30years of beating she still thinks he will change
Wow! People blaming the poor woman for going back to her abusive household... you are champions !
One needs to see the bigger picture. Was her family, friends and other acquaintances supportive if her leaving or were they the one to harp on her to go back for her grown-up son?
It's society's fault and as long as peoples won't change their mindset and be supportive then such cases will keep on happening. Having a good support system is important but building up girls and boys from their childhood to prevent these kind of behaviour is essential.
I feel so sorry for these women that are conditioned to live in abusive marriages. Even those marriages turn out to be living hell, your family/society expects you to make amends and adjust for the sake of children.
I hope the stigma around divorce is reduced, so that people can feel more free to divorce without fear of being judged.
Imagine, if a famous, powerful, wealthy woman feels constricted in an abusive marriage for 30 years, what would a common, ordinary woman feel like? Especially in a country that does not even recognize marital rape as an offence and thinks a man is entitled to sex whenever he wants. Sickening.
I hate the stupid excuse that women put up with abusive husbands because of their children.
Like seriously!!!
What are you teaching your children doing that?
If it's your son, then you are teaching him that it's okay to beat up your wife and she will put up with the nonsense.
If it's your daughter ,then you are teaching her that you should put up with your abusive husband, no matter what.
Mothers like these bring up weirdos!!
there are do many people in India who still look down upon women from film industry. Did Rati care about such people and leave acting?Originally posted by: Maraka_Musso89

Then why should she care about people who would ask her to go back to her abusive husband?
She had a career and could support herself and her son.
So stop blaming the society for everything.
One has to stand up for themselves

She did stand up for herself when she finally got the nerve to leave her husband after 30 years of abuse. That's what we know. However, we don't know if she was pressurised to return to him and if so what means were used to do so.
Also what do we really know about her personal finances ? Maybe she didn't invest what she earned or maybe she let her husband deal with the money -and I'm pretty sure an abuser wouldn't let his victim have any means to be independant.
Also it's possible that her earning weren't as huge as one could expect an actress to earn as they didn't have ads raining like actress do nowadays.
One also has to take into account that she went against her family to marry the man. So she certainly wouldn't have been in a place to complain about him.
Even to this it's still like this. If one's parents don't approve of the person one chooses as life partner, then it can sour their relationship to the point that one won't be able to go to their family in case the relationship with said partner fails
This is so sad. I wish she had gotten out of this toxic relationship much earlier.
In India, especially in marriages, couples try hard to make things work despite all the troubles. And then when kids happen, your focus shifts there and you endure everything. And by then, so much time has passed that you become habituated to your situation.
Growing up, I remember my mom telling me, "I want you to study, get a good job and be independent. If in future, your husband abuses you, I don't want you to put up with it. I want you to step out and live your own life and for that you can't be dependent on others."
Like the member above said, I wonder if financial constraints and lack of a means of livelihood is what forced her to go back. We don't know what other constraints she has in terms of support.
I hope she's fine now. Feel really sad for her.
