Padma didn't release in Gujarat. Some travel guy started a Bus from Surat (City in Guj) to Mumbai (City in Maharashtra, another state). Bus mein le jake. Padma dikhake. Lunch included and gets you back in a day. 😆

Padma would have been highest grossing movie of 2018 if released in Gujarat. Are mera state SLB ka pakka deewana hai. One of my Aunt watched Devdas thrice in theater to see Paro's jewelry.🤣 Aise to kai log hai.

It did not release in Rajasthan and Gujarat at all. In Haryana in the 2nd weekend and in MP in the 3rd weekend. Its trending in the latter part was being compared to Dangal...so obviously controversy can do only so much. If a film is rejected after controversy it will not trend so well. But alas forum will never accept this fact.

True.. It cannot.. the controvery however can give the movie a boost.. Just like it gave Sanju and to some extent Padma.. Of course, the movies earned because people liked what they saw.. But ek point you hai na..
Most SLB movies, including BM, RL and PV lost their initial hype on SM after they were taken off theaters.. Thats not true for other Blockbusters.. Tou once the jewelry love dies, perhaps people begin to see the flaws?😆

Is the disdain because they werent huge blockbusters or they were mediocre films at best.
Good films tend to have repeat value and people watch it again and keep them alive.
Me personally haven't watched them again since their release.

Blockbusters like Padmavat, Sanju, Dhoom 3 are hits, big hits.. But they lack that repeat value.. they lack the actual touch with the audience that needs to sustain for a long period for a movie to become memorable.. In my personal opinion of course.. So while money wise they are big, they are not great movies and thus fail to withstand the tests of time

From what I know, Sanju is an ATBB but nobody seems to care too much about that.
I don't think it'll ever be an iconic film... Like a Mughal E Azam or a Sholay or even a DDLJ.

@bold -- definitely. Story -wise they do.

But overall pop culture references still stay popular. Like Songs become part of school's annual functions, danced at weddings n other ceremonies. Bajirao's get up did get popular among kids for dressing up day. This year I saw Rani Laxmi Bai and Simmba was quite popular.

Sanju earned 52 cr more then Padmavat without a single holiday, Padmavat had national holiday on day 2, ban, non-ban wouldn't have made much diff in final analysis Sanju would still be HGOTY, the margin would have been less though.
