Women from Maratha Royal families too never danced... in fact even the act of tying ghungroo to the feet were looked down upon for as recent as 50 years back... so there is no ways Kashibai would've danced with Mastani... even the Peshwa family too objection against that song...

esp here it being KJO, he might make her dance just to keep it as a surprise element...

Like I said, Janhvi is learning Mujra, which was only performed by courtesans. She's not learning Kathak etc.

Here is the link in which Janhvi clearly said it

I'm also curious as to who'll play Ranveer's wife then. Maybe they'll just audition for the role because It's not that important in this movie? Dara's wife died even before him.

with Karan being the director, we really cant think of authenticity... so as @goldendew said, Jhanvi might be learning dance for some personal song, Dara's wife will performs for him... cause otherwise there is no one opposite him...

No, actually Dara's wife wielded a lot of political influence in her husband's harem.

Janhvi IS learning mujra. She's clearly said it in an interview recently that she's "learning mujra for Takht" and can't get the routine out of her head.

Mughal princesses did not dance, so either way she's not playing Ranveer's wife because Dara's wife, Nadira, was a Mughal princess. This is not Mohe rang etc. Mughal princesses were always in strict pardah.

By not political I meant the court politics not harem politics. Jahanara and to some extent Roshanara had political influence at large and had free hand at making decisions (Roshanara was power hungry like Aurangzeb n wanted more power as she was jealous of the hold Jahanara had) surprisingly despite Jahanara blatantly sided Dara, Aurangzeb retained all her powers and freedom after succeeding the throne. Roshanara is said to have detested it but her protests fell onto deaf ears.

Don't underestimate karan. He can very well make nadira sing you are my soniya if it pleases him!!

Yeah. There were some objections and criticisms because SLB made Paro, Kashibhai and Padmavati dance when in reality in those times women from noble, royal and aristocratic families would have never danced. A thakur's wife would have never danced that too with a tawaif, a peshwa's wife would have never danced because that something forbidden same goes for a Rajput queen.

Yeah I meant politics in general. Nadira was given political rights and privileges which only Jahanara had apart from her. Of course, Jahanara was undoubtedly THE most powerful woman in the empire during Shah Jahan's reign. Even during Aurangzeb's reign (after she reconciled with him) she used to give advice to Aurangzeb, who didn't allow women to interfere in politics but used to listen to her advice.

Roshanara was also powerful but no one was on Jahanara's level. And yeah, Roshanara was very ambitious. She even wanted to seize power when Aurangzeb became ill.

@ True but I don't think he can make a Mughal princess do Mujra... that's just impossible. Mujra is only performed by a courtesan. This would be too much.

Btw so you aren't interested in watching the film? 😆

No, no I'm not talking about dancing in general 😕😕 The films you've mentioned, the women in those films of course would NEVER have danced like that but at least they were presented in a respectable manner with a respectable traditional dance form for e.g.. Pringa and Ghoomar.

Here, we are talking about MUJRA which is not a respectable dance form at all.

Mujra was traditionally performed at mehfils and in special houses called kothas.

How can Karan make a princess do Mujra? It was only performed by courtesans.

This would probably be the first Ranveer movie which I will skip.

Regarding the mujra part. I watched the clip u shared. I donno why but I think janhvi is calling kathak as mujra. She must've mistaken both to be same. Anyways we will know in a few months if not days..who is playing whom. Alia is definitely not paired opposite Ranveer. Aurangzeb's wife has no big role so am not sure if Alia will do such a miniscule role but then she has infamously been quoted saying she said yes before even having a script so it must be a flowerpot prop role.

I don't know. All I'm saying is cinematic liberties are taken when it comes to dance. None of the actresses roles apart from Kareena is known so all we can do is speculate na.

there is a chance Janvhi thought Katak and mujra are the same. 😆
