Twinkle & Bobby had a lot of hype. The Barsaat movie had its share of stories lol! I lived through that hype even though it was all through the filmi magazines.

Of course without internet there wasnt this level of coverage abt the Nepokids before their debut but believe me, there were film magazine articles abt them before the movie released.
They used to promote movies and debutants thru magazines back then. How else would we know who is Aamir Khan or Salman or Sunny Deol to go watch their films?...
What we are now reading online used to be in filmy mags and newspaper entertainment pages.

I am not comparing, but the thing is you said Aamir and Ajay aren't technically star kids, so I said neither are.
Baat wohi khatam honi thi, but why you posted that reply??
Because if you trying to make it like they didn't had any advantage over outsiders than it makes no sense.
Plus purane zaamane mai, films used longer than today, some used to pick up in 5th week, 6th week.
So post release hype was as important, it is not like today's time where first day settles the box office in most cases.

Arre why are we commenting that it existed from black and white era, the TM asking is this the all time high? The answer in my opinion is, yes. Because it's systematic now, producers directors doing it to make money quickly. They know nepostism is a salable and in demand brand, because industry kids have the money (And connection) to spend on PR to create a fake demand for themselves. Before, audience used to care for superstars kids, now toh audience even wait for Chunky Panday's nephew's debut.

lekin ush time mai bhi toh log apne launde laundiya ko hi kaam dete the na.
aisa toh nahi tha ki only super star ke bacche milte hai.
Aur aisa bhi nahi hai ki every one wants Aahaan Pandey to debut.
Agar Dhadak mai Jhanvi(Sri wala sympathy nahi hota) toh Ishaan ko dekh ne ghanta koi jata.

@bold:where did I try to do that 😕...the only advantage that insiders had over outsiders was that they got their first film easily which in itself is a big thing...I have never denied it...I am saying that there is a difference between Abhishek /Bobby and Aamir/Ajay...today with TV deals, music rights do producers really loose money?back then even unknown outsiders were given opportunities by well known producers which is not the case today...

@Pallavi: r u saying majority of cinegoers knw who these debutants were back then? 😆
were there whole article abt these newcomers before release?were there intvws of these debutants pre-release? 😆 The poster and songs were the only way films were promoted...

Nasir Hussain had a whole lot of flops in 80's...he was going through a bad phase probably post Shammi Kapoor quit playing lead...Mansoor was an engg grad or dropout, MIT student with no experience in filmmaking...the whole cast and crew of that film had unknown artists except lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri...

Talking abt print media today every newspaper has an interview of a debutant before the movie release...

Compared to the 90s I feel like we have a lot more outsiders now.
