If a child is born in India they are immediately eligible for Indian citizenship.
If a child is born to a British citizen anywhere they are immediately eligible for British citizenship.

Typically you don't have to make citizenship decisions until the age of 18, except of course if you have to travel.

If she had a British passport as a child. Then she easily qualified for a long term visa as a dependent child. When she turned 18, she had to apply for an OCI card so she can work and stay in India.

If she had an Indian passport as a child. Just like India, its easy for a minor to get visa to visit parents if she ever had to go to UK. When she turned 18, she had to apply for British citizenship, revoke Indian citizenship, and apply for an OCI card so she can work and stay in India.

@bold: Not true. That is true in the US but not in India. This rule was amended later and now only if you are born to an Indian parent, then you're eligible for citizenship in India. There are other rules also but not one where you are eligible for only having been born here.

So what if some foreigner gives birth to a child in India because they're working there long term? IS that kid then living in India without any rights?

If they are illegal immigrants living here, then the child will also be an illegal immigrant and if they are here on visa, they can apply for naturalised citizenship for the child.
