The reason I made this topic is that I'm a British citizen myself who wants to work in India. I need advice on how I should go about it.

Anyway, if she has a British passport cause of her mom, then I guess she can also be considered Indian from her dad's side and therefore doesn't need visa?

But she was born in Mumbai. So, that solves everything. She doesn't need visa when she is born in Mumbai.

If a child is born in India they are immediately eligible for Indian citizenship.
If a child is born to a British citizen anywhere they are immediately eligible for British citizenship.

Typically you don't have to make citizenship decisions until the age of 18, except of course if you have to travel.

If she had a British passport as a child. Then she easily qualified for a long term visa as a dependent child. When she turned 18, she had to apply for an OCI card so she can work and stay in India.

If she had an Indian passport as a child. Just like India, its easy for a minor to get visa to visit parents if she ever had to go to UK. When she turned 18, she had to apply for British citizenship, revoke Indian citizenship, and apply for an OCI card so she can work and stay in India.

Well, I know for a fact that there is no difference in residence for your birth country and your nationality country, if not same. A personal experience, but I don't know if it applies to all the countries.

So, if her passport is British and it states India as her birthplace, then there is no problem. She can move back and forth between both countries as wished.

CITIZENSHIP BY DESCENT

Those born outside India between January 26, 1950 and December 10, 1992 are citizens by descent if their father was a citizen of India at the time of birth.

Those born outside India on or after December 10, 1992 are citizens by descent if either parent is a citizen of India at the time of birth.

Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI)

Although dual citizenship is not allowed by India, India offers the opportunity for persons of Indian origin to apply for the Overseas Citizenship of India ("OCI"), which is not a full-fledged citizenship, but which does provide a lifetime Indian visa for its holders.

If you are eligible for OCI then it is the easiest and long term solution.

The second option is Employment "E" visa. It will have to be for a senior level job with a salary in excess of 25K dollars a year. It is usually granted for a year and you have to apply to extend it when it expires.

*assuming you are not eligible for Indian citizenship + don't want to give up British citizenship

Yes I know Thanks to Wiki

Wiki said her Dad is Gujarati, her Mom is of Kashmir and German descent and Alia holds British citizenship

So I was trying to be funny about her terrible English accent

I find her accent normal. Very close to ones I grew up with. 😆

Passports can be renewed in any country as long as you have your country's embassy there.
She can renew her British passport in British Embassy

Thank you so much for giving me this information. I'm not eligible for OCI and the Employment E Visa is the best option for me.
