Why is the responsibility on the victim and not on the harasser...? So Film industry is full of shitbags and predators, and aspiring actors who want to "preserve" their self respect should CHOOSE to walk out of their careers and not get abused...but we won't do anything to stop creating the environment in first place..

Hey,
So what is the solution according to you?
Why can't you shift your job?
Also after complaining, you can expect some action being taken against the harraser. But keeping quiet will NEVER help. This is what I mean.

Yes job is important but is it more important than your self respect????

You decide what you want ...it's your choice. Either speak up or take it. Speaking up is always good...it may Not be solution bit it may save you from further loss or can make others aware. People can come to support you as well that way.

I understand you. For creating safe environment, action and safety measures should be there. It's everyone's responsibkires to create healthy atmosphere work place. 😊

@Dev, not everyone has the courage to do so ie speak up right there n then. Tanushree did speak about the sexual harrassment then n there when it happened but wasn't heard. Now when she spoke about it, and in the wake of the ongoing movement, she inspired many others to come out with their own story. I cannot believe u choose to question the women on why they kept quiet then? It doesn't make sense at all n its insensitive.
I completely agree that women should be made self sufficient to deal with such situations but until we as a society don't work towards it, nothing will change. Until reforms are actively instituted in various places, how do u expect women to defend themselves..its not about just martial arts, its about entire personality building so that we are not rendered weak, at least in case of the older women who get harrassed at workplace.
Blaming women for not coming out with their story then n there is not right especially because of all the victim shaming that goes on in our society. Tab bola ho ya ab, they need to be heard and those who have committed such crimes need to be punished. There is absolutely no two ways about it.

Rani n u are doing the same thing-blaming the victim and putting responsibility on the victim for the sexual assault. If she cannot defend herself, it doesn't mean she is to be blamed. She should learn to defend herself, for her own safety but if she can't or if she didn't, then we as a society should atleast be a bit sensitive to her story and not brush it as weakness on her part. This is a major part of the problem.

Stop blaming the victim for something that happened to him or her against their will. They did not choose this.

my point is why should it first come to that place...Like why should I be in a situation where I have to take such a decision...why should I go through the trauma...My solution probably would be is to create a fear in the perpetrator, say like a no tolerance policy, the consequences of an action and the strict implementation...Not many work places have this...and most of the sexual harassment at work is power dynamics...we are so busy asking the victims to be careful but not doing anything to the perpetrator...if we start shifting the responsibility from the victim to the harasser and have strict consequences be it by law/committees/boards...we can have some change...other wise for next 200 years, we will be still blaming the victims for not being too careful/not choosing to stand up for themselves..

I was about to open a response to this person. But then I read this. You have written very well exactly what I wanted to respond to 'him' with.

Victim blaming, expecting the victim to take action, questioning why a victim did or did not do something is all this person talked about. Never about how a perpetrator should not have been enabled in the first place.
I don't think I want to talk to someone with such an insensitive attitude towards sexual harassment.

Exactly... even though the woman was tough enough to complaint to higher authorities, she lost her job... also if a woman is tough and say gives a karate chop to her boss, what is the guarantee that he will learn the lesson and wont approach another weaker looking woman ?

Important thing is that law becomes so strong that the perpetrator fears it and if they know that the society will back the victim and sham them only, then they might have some fear and not approach any women like that...

very well said...even DP and Anushka were saying the same thing...that why should it reach to that situation that a woman will need to defend herself...why not make it safe instead by teaching the perpetrators to behave or leave

So easy to say why can't u shift job etc etc. As if job is so easy to get in India. On top of that many girls take care of their family ,with sick parents at home n she being the sole earner.
Also Rani did not just suggest martial arts as. A precaution, many of us do that, we do feel safer if our girls know self defense etc.but that doesn't omit any possibility of anything ever happening to them. Rani acted like that's the only solution,as if teaching every girl martial arts is much easier than just teaching basic equality n concept of consent to boys. In India many girls don't even go to school so where will this poor opressed girls learn self defense?
And Rani had a very nothing ever happened to me oo there must be something other women r doing wrong type of attitude. N deepika rightly called her out that it's not cz she's something more than any woman it's cz she's lucky, better protected n privileged.

Also no it was not just about grown women in bw me too environment. Alia brought up little girls being molested by relatives n Rani even added about girls being groped in bus train. Then she kept doing martial arts noises n kept saying martial arts in every school . So she did indicate thats a solution to every girl getting molested n raped🤢

Poor girl. Hope she got a much better job later.
I don't understand how teaching martial arts to 50 cr pluswomen is easier than teaching boys basic decency, equality n consent.
Also the laws r there why not enforce it instead of thopoing all responsibility on women. So just cz I couldn't defend myself I HV noright to seek justice🤢 that's what Rani n some people here r suggesting

Even if girls learn self defence according to Rani's advise ...what about in cases where the men gang up. How about small kids and infants ? Rani came out as sheer stupid.
