Simmba Has Good Advance Booking
Thursday 27 December 2018 17.30 IST
Box Office India Trade Network

Simmba is looking set for a strong opening as it has good advance booking especially in Mumbai and Central India markets. If we compare with Zero then the advance overall is much less but that is a Shahrukh Khan starrer and this is Ranveer Singh so there is a big difference there.

Also the on the day crowd is much higher as a percentage for a film like Simmba than Zero as its a mass film. The last Rohit Shetty film Golmaal Again had no advance but still put 30 crore nett but it was a holiday. The advance only opened on Tuesday and it has solid results.

It will be known how far it goes it goes in the evening but no doubt it will be good. Baaghi 2 got an advance of 10 crore nett and this film started late so it might fall short of that figure but could get close which would be very good for Simmba. If the multiplexes of Delhi and East Punjab can do just do just good to decent business then the year will end on a good note as these are the likely weak areas for the film. The advances are a good in Maharashtra, Gujarat and CPCI and these areas will support the film to cover shortfalls from the North if film has merits.

#OneWordReview...
#Simmba: WINNER.
Rating:
A solid, well-packaged entertainer with a powerful message... Rohit Shetty gets it right yet again... And so does Ranveer, who is outstanding... Whistles, claps, laughter assured... Expect a STORM at the BO... #SimmbaReview

Comparing something that's actually happened with other things in the imagination don't count.

Do take your own advice. 😆

Can u vouch that the critics didn't get to party at mannat, alibaug, jalsa or panvel? They weren't showered with gifts n exclusive merchandise from the films that had the superstars? You can twist it any way you want because you're a Ranveer hater but it's not going to make a joyous occassion of his life unethical and corrupt.

Simmba Movie Review: Ranveer Singh's 'Herogiri' and Ajay Devgn's scene stealing cameo make this a decent watch

Simmba Movie Review is out now. Starring Ranveer Singh in the lead role, Simmba is helmed by Rohit Shetty and also features Sara Ali Khan, Sonu Sood, Ashutosh Rana and Siddhartha Jadhav. Read our review below..

Simmba Movie Review | Photo Credit: Twitter

It won't be wrong to call Rohit Shetty the new-age Manmohan Desai. Just like Desai, Rohit Shetty has the ability to serve you the most outlandish narrative and plot and you can't help but buy each and every bit of it. The story of Simmba is simple. A corrupt cop Sangram Bhalerao aka Simmba (Ranveer Singh) who works for a local gangster Durva Ranade (Sonu Sood), has a change of heart when one of his own suffers at the hands of the powerful gangster.

There is nothing unique with the story but it's Rohit Shetty's execution that makes Simmba a fun watch. And add to that the live wire that is Ranveer Singh and you get an entertainer.

As a kid when I used to watch Jim Carrey films especially Ace Ventura, I often used to think if an Indian actor can do any of the bizarre stuff Carrey is doing and finally, I've got an answer in Ranveer Singh. His body language, his dialogue delivery, the way he modulates his voice from scene to scene, Ranveer is a worthy successor of Carrey. And not just that he also will remind you Akshay Kumar of the 90s.

There is plenty that is wrong with Simmba. The movie has a wafer-thin plot, some cringe-worthy scenes, some nonsensical scenes and some scenes which could have easily been edited out *cough* all scenes involving Sara Ali Khan *cough*.

But, it is Ranveer Singh's electrifying energy, infectious charm and the whistle-worthy dialogues that keep engaged and entertained. The first half of the film wastes too much time and the actual story starts towards the interval. And just be clear the movie is an expansion of the trailer.

The screenplay is uneven. The cinematography is just about fine and the music should've been avoided. The background score is good though. The editing should've been sharper.

There is a scene in the movie when SPOILER ALERT Simmba tells Singham, "Aapne Bacha Liya", it almost felt like Ranveer Singh just broke the fourth wall and was actually thanking Ajay Devgn from saving the movie from its mediocrity. Ajay Devgn in a scene-stealing cameo nails it. Despite all it's shortcomings, you'll be hooked throughout.

Talking about other actors, Sara Ali Khan was just about fine as she had nothing much to do in the movie. I am glad Kedarnath was her debut movie and not Simmba. Sonu Sood excels in his role and I loved the way his character was handled. Among other supporting cast members, Siddharth Jadhav is fine but it is Ashutosh Rana who gets a meatier part. And his scenes with Ranveer Singh are a delight to watch.

Overall, Simmba works for three reasons - Rohit Shetty, Ranveer Singh and the dialogues...and also that epic cameo by Ajay Devgn (okay, four reasons). This is Rohit Shetty's tribute to the cop dramas of the 70s and 80s, so don't expect anything logical. Just go in and have fun.

P.S. - There is also a surprise for all of you at the end.

Rating: 3 Stars

21 cr is bigger than padmavat but then that did not have had a wide release. Baaghi 2 definitely was the year's biggest surprise n a benchmark of sorts.
