Khans aren't the problem, its a guys taking over the mantle that are.
Ranbir and Ranveer should be the ones taking over but are failing to do so as their own BO records are mediocre at best, as well.
If these two were giving hits after hits, then you could say there is shift in power. But they aren't.
Salman and Aamir have one flop surrounded by a few big hits. Rnabir and Ranveer have one hit surround by few flops. There's no comparison.
The industry has a massive problem.

No Khans are the 'problem' at least Srk and Salman are.

They are old and haggard but refuse to play age-appropriate roles.

I have issues with the khans, but I must say that people like Ranbir and Ranveer do have a certain x factor missing! I have never seen a real life die hard fan of any of these people! They are just quite thanda in their personality!

The problem or shall I say "change" is not just in Bollywood but in the aam janta viewing their movies.
It is rarer to find die hard kattar fans of any present gen actor because common people, esp youngsters, no longer view them as infallible gods but as people who act for a profession. With the great access of social media, people connect to actors like normal people. For eg, once they see such actors posting a pic with a sandwich or even see them get married and goof around...they become real people and not idols to be worshipped.

People want good story-telling that entertains as well as makes some amount of sense.
Whichever actor choses the right script, works hard and does not consider himself bigger that the story to be made, gets the accolades today.

In the golden time of the Khans, lack of such easy access and communication, as well as lack of other avenues of viewing experience, focussed the love and hate of the public on the faces they saw on the big screen. Now, there are so many other avenues like short films, web series, netflix etc ...The availability of multiple choices today gives people the opportunity to see what they want and reject what they dont.

In the end, entertainment is a changing business, and one must change with times to be relevant.
