Not necessarily a big director chases the biggest or the best name in the business. It's just what works accordance and obviously with encouragement/persuasion of friends and colleagues.

BOI has termed than Bhansali and Hirani as big names as some leading stars. And they truly are. SLD wouldn't have stuck with Ranveer if Ram Leela would have failed, neither would Hirani bothered of Ranbir if he wasn't convinced by his family. Putting aside Ranbir. The question relies on so called outsider? I mean your star value is based on your success. And for that Ranveer doesn't have that without Sanjay Leela Bhansali. I mean we can around Bhansali, but to actually notice Ranveer doesn't have any major success without a packaged and hyped period film. And if we are to credit him for those 3 SLB films, then again he only left with 2 moderate success to back them too. On ground level, who has most success matters. And that is to make the film work with targeted audiences.

No. Shoojit Sircar (3 multiplex success) is not a big name on ground level, neither is Sharat Katariya (a 30cr film DLKH). Nor is Vikramaditya Motwane. And never was Sriram Raghvan. But SLB and Hirani certainly are. Working with big directors doesn't indicate you're a bigger star. But working with newer directors and leading them to stardom of their own is big thing which Shashank is heading for.

Ranveer and Ranbir being pitted up against each other is only media hype. Due to excessive relationship drama. Unnecessary PR overdrive of coverage on their feuds, break ups and weddings. Both having Deepika connection with Katrina, and Alia attached to that too (all no.1 heroines). They also have loyal back ups. Ranbir has Kjo, Ranveer has SLB. Varun despite in Dharma camp and all. Doesn't really get the star treatment with in it. He got confirmed for Kalank got BKD doing well. Otherwise he barely gets importance. Funny enough Kjo has done this twice. Announced Shuddhi with Varun for 2016 Diwali but released his own film. Same case here with Rannbhoomi and Takht. Does that imply for box office purposes Kjo uses VD's names to avoid clashes? What possibly has Karan miffed is, Varun refusing to part of false relationship dramas. He is committed to someone outta industry and seems very loyal. That leaves him out of being controversial.

As for people crying not being offered big films by big directors. I mean today the if ground scale medium is social media hype then we must consider Nitesh TIwari as the biggest director of Bollywood as he just gave Dangal which is still highest grossing bollywood film. And he openly offered Chichore to Varun. Which VD rejected due to scripting issues. Theres nothing called playing safe now. A masala film could be an equal risk for getting complete rejection too. I think most trades have already said Varun being the most successful star for being consistent, and that too without any big directors.

Not to worry. You will see some clashes for Takht. Bookmark this too. Ajay is sure targeting that day or even Aamir or Salman too. John too has the impact nowadays. The good thing is Dhawan is keeping dates free after spy film. After all, equations changes friday in Bollywood. Give Simmba, Gully Boy, Kalank, ABCD3 and Brahmastra a pass and you will again see who stands in which position

Takht is a big star cast film after some time. Well Kalank has alot of people also but most of them are past their best or never had a best 😆😆😆. Takht has a lot of people and barring Anil Kapoor all of them are very relevant so it deserves a big holiday showcase release. Its true 2018 was better for Biru/Veeru than Varun but 2017 was better for him than them. All we can do is see what comes next.
