According to Taran Adarash Sui Dhaaga is at 77.5 CR after the 3rd weekend.

For starters, the movie had a lame title. I'm surprised BOI didn't mention that. I mean they had a problem with the title "Ship of Theseus", which actually sounds like a pirate adventure film. But Sui Dhaaga? It was obvious that the story is related to stitching and nitting, which is a very uninteresting theme to make a movie on.

I think you are slightly wrong here. It is a CLEAN ALL-TIME BLOCKBUSTER (ATBB)

There's no denying the Fact that Sui Dhaaga underperformed & underperformed big time, I mean October ka toh fir bhi samajh aata hai, it was an Art house film with no songs or promotions or known faces except VD, but there is hardly any legitimate excuse for SD's underperformance except for maybe flop music, or Asia cup final but that's only for subpar opening.
Anyways it had a very mediocre too convenient storyline, avg dialogues, that cringey ending & YRF's obsession with competition theme is the reason I believe for mixed to bad WOM,

Performances were good esp Varun & Amma😆 even I liked his & Anu's chemistry but screenplay was so childish & blah
But what I believe is the biggest reason for this is the starcast was too big for these roles or plot (not saying VD & Anu are some massive superstars😆 but still have an image of sorts) matlab below poverty line set up chalo thik hai, but constant beizzati of leads I even mentioned this point in my review (where I gave it 4 stars 😆 faltu mein, o/w I bashed the film alot) Sharat went too extreme IMO to show them as underdogs to the point of showing his "Hero" as dog, making the fairy tale ending even more hard to digest.

not every movie will strike gold, and you gotta look beyond BO numbers, doing movies that seal your ability to do good meaningful roles are important too

Well yeah the movie did kinda underperformed. It should have done more. I think a total around 100 crore would have been very good for this kind of film. But I guess the wom was mixed some liked it some didn't. But I will still say I loved the film., I love these kind of films which have simple narrative.I am really happy varun did this film. I am finally very proud of the choices he has made. He has done those generes which his contemporaries don't have guts to do.
And I don't get some people here. Last year when he gave huge hits when everyone else flopped, they were like who cares for box office he should do good movies. Then finally when he did this year they go on mocking him. Looks like some people will always hate him and will find a way to pull him down anyhow. But its fine.He has two commercial movies up for release next year so he will even it out.
