I still remember Jhanvi having such bad reputation in this very forum until the death of Sri. Khushi and Jhanvi were called plastic, Khardasian wannabes and so on.

Thats because of perception. Janhvi and Khushi were flocking around with their designer outfits, photoshoots, outings with their mother. People automatically assumed that they would be two spoilt brats who are entitled and brattish.

If you remember - even with the trailer released people were not going easy on Janhvi. Most people here didnt even like her in the trailer (but they changed their mind after watching the movie because she was actually good)

Its not until they saw her interviews until people decided to go easy on her. We all thought she would be a entitled bimbo, but shes the exact opposite. Its only then that the tide started changing, yes the Sridevi factor is there too but not entirely - I believe its the way she conducts herself that made people her fans.

You are talking about acting only here and I am talking about stardom. No one disputes Alia can act, but is she a star that can stand alone on her own. No IMO. You need fashion, figure and sex appeal to be a star. Even in the 70s Hema Malini was a star because she was the dream girl of many, her daughter who looks ordinary girl could not sustain.

Though you may despise fashion, even Kajol with her unibrow became extremely fashion conscious in her later years. You look at her dressing now and then. Her dressing worked then, today if she looked like she did in Baazigar no one will give her a chance, even KJO despite whichever film family she comes from. Nyssa seems like a girl not interested in fashion, if she decides to come into films let us see if she is presented the way she looks like now. No, she will groomed and wrapped in designer stuff to be presented as a product with Manish and possibly KJO involved along with Micky Contractor who sort of made Kajol a very well groomed, fashionable middle aged actress who does not work regularly but still has a stylist. She wants to present herself well so she can get ads and films, otherwise even Shah would not have offered her Dilwale if she had let herself go becoming moti or ungroomed.

As for Madhuri, she has spoken about how they used to go out with oily hair in the 9s0 but now even when they step out for errands they need to look put together because they are always photographed. Have you ever seen any recent Madhuri picture where she looks less than well groomed be it Indian or western. She errs on the side of more than less. Why bother when people fell for her "ada" ? She has the same "ada", smile. Except she looks absolutely polished now. Maintains her figure.

Karishma, better looking now than the 90s. Shilpa Shetty always sexy, but works more now than before because look at her. In fact I can't think of a single actress from the 90s who has let herself go or does not dress better than they did in the 90s. You can't say the same for the men.

Stardom which is totally dependent on fashion, presentation is different from acting. That is why Vidya Balan is not #1 or a superstar. Neither is Aloo a superstar and will never be.

Very simply put when I think of the term "superstar a couple things come to mind:

1. You have to have the aura of a star. Simply acting or acting well won't cut it. That's why Tabu is not a super star. Great actress but not a star. Alia though not at Tabu's level is a good actress but she has no superstar quality.

2. To be a superstar you have to be looked up to. People should want to see you all the time and want to be you. There are so many people that want to be Madhuri or even if they don't want to be the person there is a high level of appreciation for them. People need to idolize you - I can guarantee you nobody in this world idolizes Alia lol nobody wants " to be her lol

3. Fashion, style, beauty - is important. I know some members here really wants to believe they're a movie critic who appreciates "the art of acting Please if that's the case go watch plays. We know at some point you appreciated a style statement. All these guys that go to the gym now and want abs... that was started in the brown community by Salman Khan Lol... was anyone doing it before ? That's what you call stardom. People look up to him and want to be him. Hrithik did that too with his body and dancing . There are different kind of superstars . Some are idolized for their charm, their body, beauty, dancing, acting or just their personality you have to inspire and affect people etc what is Alia idolized for? Name one thing lol

Similarity people look upto Madhuri for her dancing, Sridevi for her acting and later her fashion sense, Aishwarya for her looks and so on, people idolize them they have a star quality to them. This is stuff that Alia lacks, she's not a superstar.
