Damini is on TV right now and I have to say this is such an under rated movie and way ahead of its time. You got to remember that most movies during the 90's either presented rape as stigma or made it into a sick titillating angle. But Damini is something else, many scenes are spot on.

Is there other movies from the 90's that are based similar on law and order, justice type issues?

Superb film! It was a big commercial and critical success when it released. Great direction, story/dialogues, editing, music and acting ensemble! 👏 Meenakshi, Sunny, Rishi, Amrish, Kulbhushan, Tinnu Anand, Rohini and Sulbha Arya.

And yes, I still shed tears from time to time knowing that Meenakshi was robbed a Best Actress award over Juhi's popular performance in HHRPK. 😭 It is one of the gravest mistakes by Filmfare🥱.

In the end, Damini - the film and the lady - stood the test of time.

Rajkumar Santoshi knew how to direct relevant social dramas back in 90s. I love his trilogy - Ghayal, Damini and Ghatak. Too bad, he disappeared ... because I feel he can still do that genre well.

This film is a fitting tribute to Gandhi's ideology that the court of conscience supercedes all higher courts of justice. ⭐️👍🏼

Insaf ka Tarazu based on a rape case.

Main Aisa Hi Hoon based on a custody case.

Aitraaz is another one with Priyanka, Akshay and Kareena.

Meenakshi did a fab job as Damini and I am quite surprised that she was not among the top actresses of 90s unlike Kajol and Sri Devi.

This film has all the badges. Raj Santoshi and Sunny worked really well in all their collabs, Meenakshi lived the role the whole concept was top work. I liked Rishi Kapoor this dude is such an underrated actor, Sunny Deol was really good too but i do feel he was overshadowed by Amrish Puri's brilliance the guy was so versatile i mean no cap but he was so convincing as the badass evil lawyer that you actually begin to believe that rape isn't such a bad thing these things happen when you're young everyone does it, no big deal just as he said in the movie then you have to shake yourself and realize W*F were you just thinking. I felt that Damini's vibe at the end really touching moment everyone was perfect in their role

I loved the movie and Meenakshi was simply awesome in her role. She defo deserved best actress over Juhi any day.

There's two movies that come to mind which are very dark and rather disturbing based on injustice and oppression of women.

Boss I recommend you catch the 2nd. It takes a look into future India and what it would be like to have a nation without women if female infanticide is to carry on.

This movie was so hard hitting and showed everything in new light at that time; unlike the trending script- jaha if behen or second lead got raped, kill or sacrifice them at the end...disgusting to say the least.
It's one of best movie of those times
But it did have a bad effect on me as a child as I used to have nightmares and even stopped playing holi the consequent years.

Damini was a very progressive movie well ahead of its time. For starters, it was a female fronted flick well before filmmakers were willing to take those risks. It tackled the delicate issue of rape as well as class disparities, and marital expectations. It went on to become a commercial and critical success.

Seriously? I hope you were only exaggerating because I cannot even fathom as to how anybody could get convinced about such a thing no matter how the argument is presented...

@OT: Easily one of the best movies till date of that genre...Also one of the best court room scenes in the Hindi cinema...And also one of the few times the supporting actor stole the show from right under the noses of the leads...

This movie was too ahead of its time . Meenakshi and Sunny Deol were amazing . I loved the court room scene & arguments between sunny and Amrish puri's character . Amrish puri too gave a superb performance
