That was the flak she received..that why did she change her name inspite of being a feminist..trolls found name changing regressive..she was replying to those comments. Obviously she would have read some.

Feminism is about choice. Choice to be traditional or progressive. When you take Sonam's name change in context. She opts in for tradition that has been followed. She didn't get forced by her in laws, but she did on her own. Maybe that's what feminism is about...

First of all, the illogicality is of the justifications she's giving, not the name change itself. That is what I bothered about. Her stupid reasoning for why she wants to change her name. If she just said it's a personal choice then it would have been fine

Second, you said

in your earlier comment. And that's where I pointed out how they did not make identical changes to their names. Sonam added Ahuja and Anand only added an S. So when people say that the husband has also changed his name, then he hasn't taken up her surname like she has. It is unequal. And I will not applaud a man for taking up an initial of his wife because "kam se kam usne itna toh kia, kitna cute hai wo, usually husbands bilkul change nahi karte, so we are happy with whatever little we got".

I am all for personal choice and emotions. So really I don't want to criticise her name change but the truth is she did it cuz she's conventional, and it's fine. But why give reasons which DO NOT make sense to look modern and justify yourself being a feminist. That is stupid, in my opinion. DP not removing her tattoo is unconventional, not the norm in society. She is making her personal choice and I respect that also. But if she gave some stupid justification which I found nonsensical then I will not support her in it either. They should just keep their mouth shut if they don't have anything smart to say. That's it.

^DP not removing RK tatto is like someone who was divorced and still keep her husband's name. Jemaima is doing it but she is raising kids of Imran Khan and didnt marry again. So she wanted to keep the same family name of her whole family. DP has moved on to another guy, and made allegations in public how he cheated on her and still kept his tatto. It doesn't add up.

Anyway since you brought up DP's name that's why I am adding my two cents!

Exactly. Why keep someone's last name on your body? that thing is forever... you can remove first name and last name from papers and instagram anytime... we will always know that Deepika had RK on her tattoo. Actually, I think she's foolish thinking that some average guy like Ranbir would stay with her when he has a history of cheating on people... we shall see whose marriage stays longer... Deepika? Ranbir? or Sonam?

I dont see the issue. So many of us fight for the fact that women take on a man's name etc etc and that men don't do vice versa. If he truly did take on Sonam as his middle name, whats the problem? Kapoor is her father's name, and she gets to keep it while taking her husband's last name too. If Anand took her name instead of her father's, whats the problem? Its still a nice gesture. Anand Sonam Ahuja. I would appreciate something like that. He married her, not her father. Whether he adds her first name or last name, why does that matter?

Big Sonam fan here. I wasn't happy with her choice at all. She is THE Sonam Kapoor!! Aamir Khan once said long time ago when he was in his 20s...why should my wife change her name...she has lived with it for 20 years! Sold mate sold lol! That stuck. So ya.

Anyways Sonam is quite traditional. I have always found her to be so. I have friends just like her who appear very modern & progressive on the surface but inside they are traditional to the core. And that's ok. You can be whatever you want to be. I like her for speaking up for many issues and doing socially relevant films. I like her philosophy of life & friendly nature.

Also when we are born we don't choose our names. Our parents choose what surname we will have. So to say WE choose daddy's surname out of respect is lame. Should have stopped right at my choice!

She changed her name based on numerology? Kill me now!! Lol!! She clearly believes in Astrology as her mangal sutra signified. Sigh. I hold my tongue when my mother goes on & on about astrology, kundli, wearing stones (I know most of BW does too lol) so I will hold my tongue because I love Sona Mona! Whatever keeps her happy.
