I think she had some drug problems back in 2007/2008

She might also have wanted to marry Ness Wadia hence her slowing down her acting career and beginning her business venture (production and cricket team)

Finally the movies she did either bombed (her own production Ishq in Paris) or were shelved (Har Pal because of Shiney Ahuja's scandal and Bhaiyyaji Syperhitt that has been in the making for 2012)

At one point she was crazy about cosmetic surgery too and it didn't do great things for her.

Because audience didnt support her in Ishq in paris

Neither Dharma Productions or Yash Raj Films made an effort to cast her.

I think she could easily fit in any of the movies in place of Katrina

like Zero, Thugs of Hindostaan

Just because she is not in limelight , she has become outdated

audience and industry both responsible

BTW kajol not her contemporary

I think it's mainly because she really screwed up her face big time. People complain about Kat but that is nothing compared to how bad Preity looked. She was unbearable to look at in KANK and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom. It's not surprising she didn't get any mainstream movies after that.

She also wanted to marry Ness and tried her best to revamp her image to a dignified business woman from a starlet because his family was against her.

Probably also just luck as well. Kajol is still getting work but so many others from her time like Raveena, Karisma, Shilpa, and Sonali Bendre also disappeared.

She took a long break to marry Ness. By the time she realized it won't work out others had taken her place. She didn't have a powerful well wisher like Katrina has Salman to get people to give her work to be visible again.

Then the other mistake was producing her own film. Unlike Anushka she didn't try to convince us it was empowerment which made her do it and not joblessness.

Preity's USP was her cuteness which after KANK and Salaam Namaste was non-existent. Also - her acting got really bad too. Especially in JBJ was like wow. She was horrible.

The whole Ness Wadia thing didn't help either. Plus she was never superior to Rani or Ash, she was always a distant third and then eventually overtaken by Priyanka/Kareena.
