I don't think Amitabh is telling people to not watch the hollywood movies, he is simply saying that don't patronize the efforts of the new film makers who are trying to compete with the advanced technologies of hollywood in trying to bring big films in bollywood. Baahubali was a big wake up call, from now on, I hope tollywood and especially bollywood focus on developing VFX and such. It is important to have these technologies nowadays to compete with hollywood superhero movies. China has also made great strides in the VFX field, I hope bollywood can learn from that. Let's hope bollywood wakes up and moves ahead. In no way do I EVER want hollywood to take over bollywood in India. That would be a huge travesty! 😔

Bollywood is dying because it can't keep up with regional cinema. Filmmakers in regional cinema are more willing to try different genres and take creative risks.
Bollywood needs to look at the Chinese movie Industry if it wants to survive. Sure, the international imports make crazy amount of money there, but the local industry is thriving and has all the top spots. The local Chinese movies don't even play outside China. Wolf Warrior 2 has the record for most money in a single territory outside The Force Awakens in USA.

Lol. Thats because Bollywood is too busy with starkids and which starkid is being launched and what not. Bollywood is just stuck making masala movies because they CHOOSE to not pay for good writers or content. Instead, they stick to kissing each other's asses and stuck making remakes or masala flicks. We rarely get a Dangal or Munna Bhai MBBS or Chak De India or Kahaani or even Barfi. We are stuck with crap like Bombey Velvet, Rangoon, endless Rohit Shetty-type masala flicks, or something as stupid as ADHM.

Avengers success is not a one off...Hollywood superhero and action movies have always enjoyed success in India...As far as I remember, it all started with Iron Man and since then Marvel has been having a dream run in India with Avengers, Thor Ragnarok Black Panther and now Infinity War. Same goes with other action franchise. Both Jungle Book and Furious were fantastic at the Indian market. JB also took over F7 as the highest Indian hollywood release ever. Wonder Woman too was a success given it was only released in English in India (god knows why?!). So these movies have always seen an upward trend in India...Ragnarok crossed 50 cr in 2 weeks and Black Panther crossed 20 Cr in the first week..mind you, a stand alone completely new film with no franchise to back on...so it was pretty obvious that Infinity would have such a response in India... it's the coming together of superheroes the audience has seen from 2008-2017! It actually would have been disappointing if the movie didn't get such an opening!

.

[DIV]Also, I remember reading in the forum earlier that the surge in audience for such films is because of the 'trend' and people are trying to fit in and following footsteps of the west...one should've actaully watched Infinity Wars at an Indian theatre to actually see whether it's just trying to fit in or just pure love for the superheroes! I couldn't hear the dialogues during the entry of each superhero...so loud were the roar, hoots and whistles when they entered the screen...and that collective sigh during the climax and a theatre full of Indian audience sitting THROUGHOUT the long ass credit rolls for the end credit sequence... I'm sorry but the love of Indian audience towards the Avengers is real! The hype is real! Most of the Indian market haven't had access to Marvel comics before the movies were made, they were limited to certain markets and these movies are the only way for the Indian audience to relive the popular comics!❤️

I do know that there are many fans of marvel universe, and it is not a majorly since everyone is watching, I should also watch thing. As ticket prices are too high to do that😆But the movies you mentioned none, apart from JB and to some extent FnF, really set the box office on fire like Avenger has.Avenger has had an organic rise because it has a foundation, just like BB2 broke every record because it has a foundation. So it is a one off in that sense. It is not that Indian audience has shifted to HW.A strong foundation always leads to greater success.Just think of Krish, both Krishs were kinda average or below average, but both did huge business because they were promoted well and had a foundation because of KMG.Most of major hits in recent years in India have either been either the same cast continuation or sequels.Whether TZH, GM4, Fukrey Returns or Badri series. So the formula is not VFX or Superheroes movies, it is finding familiarity and than squeezing it as much as possible and before it jumps the shark, move to something new.

South films n Hollywood are overtaking Bollywood. Number obsession over Quality and Clashes between egoistic Stars is dragging Bollywood down. U will never see a film like Avengers being made in India due to the insecurity n ego of stars. Rohit Shetty had to call off Ram Lakhan for the same reasons.

Bollywood may not compete with Hollywood in terms of budget and technology. But Hollywood can never bring nativity. Bollywood has to introspect, where is the nativity in its movies. Why should one watch Bang Bang, which is copied from Hollywood? Why can't we watch Knight and Day instead?

Even "original" films lack nativity. In Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, female lead's place changed from Lahore to Lucknow so easily.
Regional movies (not the big budget Telugu/Tamil movies), which don't even have the budget of Bollywood are managing to sustain, as they still retain the cultural nuisances.

Another reason why regional cinema, especially in non-white regions is sociocultural affinity.
Black Panther was an international hit. A huge reason it was so successful is it gave black people and other people of color a superhero who was not white. Baahubali although not as well known as Black Panther scored well globally.

Hollywood is extremely white. Despite years of progress, it is still guilty of whitewashing the non-white characters. Look, I love the superhero and fantasy fiction flicks. I won't stop watching them. I enjoy many romantic comedies and heist flicks as well.

But there is a part of me that desires people who look and talk like me on screen. Fresh of the boat immigrants experience such a disconnect from the homeland that they consume everything that reminds them of home - even shitty Bollywood movies. But that desire to consume characters from the homeland remains and people continue to patronize a good number of flicks in their preferred language.

Until Hollywood actually starts giving all people of color the equal representation they crave - people of color cinema is never ever going away.

He wasn't really telling us not to watch Hollywood. He is saying that they are so much better that they can destroy other film markets. Which is true...I think it will take a bit more time in India because Hollywood movies only appeal to a certain portion of the audience, typically the young, and the educated.
When it comes to emotional love stories I think Bollywood is better. But in every other category or genre hollywood is ahead. We need better filmmakers and better storytellers. It is not just about technology, it's about story first. My biggest problem with Bollywood movies is that they only stick to 2-3 genres.

most opportunistic actor lol,
when one choose a movie its more bcoz of offer for money and content, Bollywood cant always expect extract valuable few hundreds from viewers by imposing mediocre movie with star kids.

Simple as consumer is always chooser , it depends on them what they offer rather than expecting we will spend few hundreds for crap movies as consumer
