^If you remember, last year the NA was between the winner, a Malayalam actor and Aishwarya for Sarbjit. Aishwarya was good in the film but I still cannot digest the fact that it went to the last round. It wasn't that good. I would have been embarrassed if she had won it for Sarbjit; when she didn't win for flawless performances in films like Raincoat, how can she win for Sarbjit?

So rest assured, I am not speaking from bias. Last few years the jury has made some questionable choices. It's either that, or they've always been like this and I'm only realizing it now. In which case, I don't have the same respect for NA as I used to earlier.

This appears like a purely emotional decision. How can you explain her winning? Neither it is a critically acclaimed film, nor an outstanding performance (we've seen her do better). The box office result was also bad. So no other reason adds up... Had EV released in 2017 and she won NA for it after her death, I wouldn't have raised a question because that was an amazing performance and film and she deserved every accolade and award for it.

I have not seen the Usha Jadhav film, so unfortunately I cannot comment on that.

Thats a major problem in the core itself

A winner should be decided on what is like best from the unbiased judges

This guy championing a cause sounds suspect

Let's apply for the jury and make sure justice is meted out to the "deserving" candidate each year! ⭐️

Good points from Shekhar! There is so much talent out there in the country, but since we have so many different movie industries, it is spread out throughout the nation and it's such a loss that it doesn't have the same reach as hindi films. It would be wonderful if deserving regional films could be given more attention and given a larger reach. Off topic, but I've been hearing so much about "take off," might watch it if there is a copy with english subs, or hindi dub around.

Now what can one do ... it simply can't just be her death, the performance had to connect with them on some level.

Fortunately, Parvathy has a special mention and will get to shake hands with the President. She has opportunities in future to snag another NA. Clearly, Malyalam cinema makes good movies for women. She has talent and age on her side too.

It would have been worse if Parvathy had no nod at all, like an EV or Sadma etc. Furthermore, she won an IFFI too a few months ago.

And of course, when someone wins, someone will lose. That happens every year. Each regional cinema would have a worthy candidate. Sridevi was at the receiving end at previous NA ceremonies. Some lady always stole her actress or special mention. Oh well.😆

How many of us had a fit with Usha Jadhav winning 2012 National Award?😉She clearly kicked the heavily rooted trio Sri/PC/Vidya out that year without actress or mention honor.

Side note: Priyanka cast Usha Jadhav in her upcoming Marathi production, Firebrand.

Carry on.

Priyanka's Marathi production Ventilator won 3 National Awards last year and is now being remade in various different languages. I know Jackie Shroff stars in the Gujarati version.

Regional cinema is amazing

The MYTHS..
Old > New

Regional Cinema > BW

Once again people generalize...and forget to analyze on a case to case basis..

Like that South movie...where the heart slips of the heros hand and launches itself in the hole made by surgeons was oh so much better than Dangal..👏

Just to add, that scene is from a Telugu comedy spoof, it's an exaggerated mockery of masala movies.
