Regional films are doing some quality work. There is absolutely no doubt about it. I haven't seen a lot of them, but recently I saw a couple of Marathi films and my my! Such diverse topics told in a non-cliched manner. The performances are truly applaud worthy.

Even slice of life films are made so beautifully. One of the films I saw included the recently released Marathi film Gulabjaam - a simple, slice of life story told in a very endearing manner. I could see the Khichdi some of the Bollywood filmmakers would made of it had it been a Hindi film.

I truly hope regional cinema is promoted by their respective state governments and different language films are able to open in all states. Nowadays, all regional films have subtitles attached anyway.

To be honest, regional industries also make crappy, masala movies, potboilers, mindless entertainers which are worse than BW masala movies sometimes.

But their parallel cinema or meaningful cinema is often superior to anything that BW makes and often finds wide acceptance among that region's audience as well.
