What? Ask human beings to exercise critical thinking and intelligence before making judgments/decisions? Make sure that people realize that the Human Centipede is not the same as Moonlight? Make sure people know that Cannibal Holocaust is fiction but the holocaust was real? Never. How can one expect so much out of the only species with advanced critical thinking. 😲

Who said I have a problem with such movies? Why would I ban any movie or limit the rights of any free human? 😆

All I am saying is - some depictions are problematic. Let's examine it critically and try to improve things.

@ blue : Exercise critical thinking and intelligence before making judgments/decisions based on what ? .. Based on movies ? .. My dear woman , do you really think those who get influenced by movies are capable enough to apply critical thinking & intelligence ? .. Movies aren't the problem here . the problem lies elsewhere ... So I am not sure what you aim to achieve by highlighting stalking culture within movies .. There all kinds of movies out there .. Throwing hissy fits over movies which doesn't cater to your ideologies is in itself childish .. Remind me again , what is the difference between Human Centipede and Moonlight ? 😆

@ brown : It is not the depiction , it is the perception which is problematic here .. And improve things how ? .. You have made it clear that you are not aiming for banning such depictions ( fan girls can now let a sigh of relief 😆 ) , so then what exactly are you proposing here ? .. What sort of improvement would you like to see ? ..

And for every rich jerk with a fawning woman - I can show you blue collar, alcoholic, abusive men in trailer parks who also have a woman fawning over them. In these cases it isn't about wealth but predatory men who seek and court insecure, vulnerable, and emotionally damaged.

No self-respecting human would ever "love" another human being who fails to respect them.

@Red - generalization much about women? Sounds a lot like the "nice guy" syndrome to me. But I shouldn't make assumptions.

@ Pink - Wouldn't that be another generalization ? 😆

Judgements & generalizations - we are all guilty of it .. Our perceptions are based on our experiences & these perceptions play a major role in our judgements .. So , let's leave it at that ..

On an unrelated note - good to see you using emoticons & expressions in your posts for a change .. 😆

Most humans are more capable than you think they are.

We all have normalized certain behaviors or made assumptions based on mass media. We all have changed our minds about these perceptions through life experiences or through.

I shared the video for the same reason the guy made the video in the first place. To get a conversation going on the issue. To make people aware so they can be better. Hopefully, in the long term impact movie makers as well.

When mass media does things that are problematic, people try to call it out to raise awareness and hopefully change. I shared it for the same reason people write about problematic depictions of black people or gay people in movies. I shared it for the same reason people call out whitewashing and colorism.

To get the conversation going. A conversation will impact perception. In the long run it can impact depiction as well. You won't see any Mickey Rooney's playing Mr. Yunioshis any more.

"No self-respecting human would ever "love" another human being who fails to respect them"

It may seem like a generalization because it deals with "feelings". But it actually is factual.

Just like physiological needs (food, water, shelter); humans actually have an innate need for love, safety, and self-esteem. First proposed in Maslow's hierarchy of needs, these "emotional" needs have been proven to be true in several psychological studies over the years. Instead of Maslow's hierarchy - modern psychology claims that some of these emotional needs are as critically basic as physiological needs.

When people fawn over disrespectful/abusive people - it usually isn't "love". They are usually trading some needs for the other.

Not just in romantic relationships.Take Regina George in Mean Girls. She doesn't have any real friends. The plastics cling to her for shared power. People are nice to her to feel safe. Her social circle uses her to fill the need of belonging.

There are times when people will genuinely "love" an abuser. People "love" their abusive spouses and partners. Children will still "love" abusive parent. But in these cases there is psychological damage that has warped the notions of love and respect.

First of all I certainly don't think that any girl actually enjoys stalking or prefers bad guys to the good ones.Be it a teenager or an adult, women always prefer a secure and understanding partner to the so called bad boys.
Secondly as to why movies and TV series which depict the girls falling for the bad guys are so popular then we need to remember that at the end of the day all this is fiction and not reality.Fiction is a place where anything and everything is possible.Douchebags can turn into lovey dovey angels overnight and obsessive love can turn into intense and passionate love.People enjoy fiction because they know that it's not real.Fiction is a place where perfection is possible and it provides what people cannot have in reality. This is why a love story where a cold hearted and ruthless businessman/gangster/vampire/demon falls for a girl and she loves him back too.Such stuff is considered exciting.
But in real life no girl would ever look at such men and no ruthless and cruel person will ever change himself completely for the sake of love.

As long as we understand the difference between reality and fiction all is well.

So you actually are hoping the "depiction" to be changed in the long run .. What about the fan girls then ? .. No escapism , no fantasy , no entertainment for these poor folks ? .. Or are you hoping to change the audience's preferences altogether ? .. Very ambitious , I must say .. And might I add , quite unnecessary as well as imposing .. Movies aren't the problem here .. One's character cannot/shouldnt be nurtured via movies .. Such gullible individuals can be problematic ..Moderating movies is hardly going to help root out the problem here .. Your efforts are misplaced .. On the other hand, if your intent was only to rant & vent out frustration over fantasy love stories , I think that's perfectly fine given the platform we are on ..

As for your "factual" claims against "generalizations" .. Trust me , I could give you just as many or more evidences to support my "factual generalizations" . But too lazy to quote random studies / researches/ findings here .. Google is your friend , have at it . 😆
