DP does not have the required accent & will always struggle to achieve what PC has. She's VERY beautiful though so that should help her. But I just don't see her that ambitious about her HW career somehow

Come on, accent can't be a serious reason for Deepika failing to make it big in Hollywood. Especially for someone as ambitious as Deepika : she could easily take a dialect coach ... I feel like she didn't want to compromise.
Didn't want to leave everything and commit herself to tv show like PC did ! She wants big films or nothing but she just didn't make an impact with her first shot.
It takes time to build a reputation in HW ... You may be a star in Bollywood but you still have to prove yourself there ...
Even oscars laureate like Jean Dujardin and Marion Cotillard had to ...

I saw some of the movie a couple days ago. What a cheese fest. The movie sucked so bad. The dialogues were written by some old guy that thought his lingo was cool.
Deepika was so bad...sorry but I couldn't understand half the dialogues that came out of her mouth. She kept jumbling her words.

Kaoridz: Could be that she didn't want to go to that trouble out of security/love life or any other reason. But her accent I feel, is a big hindrance. The accent she possesses isn't seen as sexy/desirable/ breathy, the sort of accents whites believe will appeal to the white men they want these exotic beauties to cater to. Personally I find Salma/Penelope accents extremely irritating! But men can't get enough of them so go figure!

Not everybody is meant for every industry. She made it in BW which many couldn't. She tried in HW and failed. Koi baat nahi!

The way Salma Hayek speaks is very cute at least in movies... Have U seen "Fools rush in"?
(Don't like Penelope's accent)

Her voice modulation is also good, may Indian actors voice modulation suffers terribly when they perform in English, to be fair it's not that great in Hindi either 😛

Some Mexicans I see on TV have really cute accent...

Salma is definitely faking her accent : she's been in the US since she was a teen.
She just made it her brand and it works. Same thing for Sofia Vergara ...

Penelope, I can understand, she grew up in spain ... but then I look at Marion Cotillard who has the same profile and debuted in HW much later than Penelope and yet her french accent tend to fade : so I just think that these latina actresses amplify their accent on purpose to stay relevant. And I love most of them ... but some time, especially when they take interviews, it just comes across too fake.

^^Lol ya and Salma also went to a very good private school while growing up in Mexico so she definitely would've been exposed to people of different nationalities so they all definitely exaggerate their accents! I know that! Still find it highly annoying.

Betty: Ya, she's one of my favourites. I've watched lot of Salma's films. Her accent is just bloody annoying to me!! But she's hilarious! And seems so warm that it's fine. :) Beatrice At Dinner is such a fine performance, she's a pretty under-rated actress. Penelope is so over-rated.

Lots of reasons why DP failed. She debuted with the wrong movie to begin with. Vin is a spent force, a total B grade star now out of the Fast franchise. He's considered a has-been and xXx was really really bad. I couldn't even finish watching it. I think she was getting antsy since PC was already in HW so she was determined to come on screen as fast as possible.

Apart from that, she has a terrible accent. It's what people associate with Apu from the Simpsons. It's just not considered cool or sexy. It's also really hard to understand anything she says. I had to turn on subtitles to understand what she was saying in xXx. It would make it impossible to get any roles other than ones for a fresh off the boat Indian girl. There are hardly roles like that in HW to begin with.

You also can't have two careers in two places at the same time. It's nearly impossible. To make it in HW, you would have to park yourself there 24/7 the way PC does and go to every party and event and show that you're able to nab an invite to. Networking and meeting people is how you get roles, not through board rooms. PC is okay with turning into the HW Sophie Chowdhry and her personality makes it easy for her to get along with people and suck up and make friends quickly. I don't think Deepika would ever be able to do that.

Also, what's the need? BW is a pretty big industry on it's own and has lots of international markets too. Indians can play any role in BW instead of having to scrounge for minor supporting roles and working in TV serials. They make a huge amount of money too so it's not like they need the HW paycheck. And nowadays, top actresses are doing fine even at an older age. Rani just had a hit movie at 40. Kajol and Aish get lead roles in big movies in their 40s. Sridevi was doing amazing in her 50s and Madhuri is making multiple movies too in her 50s. It's only the smaller actresses that fade away. The top ones are able to work and stay relevant for a long time.

Apart from seeking approval from the white man, I don't think Indian actors need HW at all.

In Mira Nair's "Monsoon Wedding" the cast spoke both English and Hindi throughout the movie (mostly English I think)

and I had a hard time understanding when the Indian cast spoke in English...

The trouble was the movie had subtitles when the cast spoke in Hindi bcz it was an international release but not when they spoke in English...

^^And they still spoke much better than DP. I personally liked the way the MW cart spoke becaus that's how a lot of urban Indians speak & those good, clean accents. Obviously NRIs/foreigners will have difficulty understanding them LOL, but DP's accent is just terrible & I feel like that + her less ambition in pursuing a HW career, is what hasn't made her that successful in HW. I've a feeling she is getting married this year & that has her all preoccupied.
