I was more of a Madhuri fan than a Sridevi fan. But no one can deny the fact that she was one of the greatest actresses and the first female superstar of the Indian cinema. It's a huge loss to the Indian cinema. When she was alive I used to criticize her a lot and was so judgemental about her personal life. But today when she's no more with us I am feeling so bad for being so judgemental about her. Looking at her great body of work and immense adulation from all the ppl across various industries, I've realized the kind of aura she had around her. The only superstar to have been successful in all the industries be it Tamil, Telugu,Malyalam or Hindi. Unfortunately for us and the film fraternity it's a huge loss that there can never ever be an other Sridevi.May God give her family the strength to cope up with the loss especially her kids. There's nothing more worse in the world than to losing a parent.

Coz,.. " She is there,... "

Pardon me, folks,.. but,..

I am a little older guy than most of the average here ,...may be 10+ avg older here, than most of the others here... and I have witnessed the era of her old films, in Hindi at Ahmedabad theaters,... a way before Mr India , Chaalbaaz, Chandni, , Lamhein and such came,... ( with Jitu ji Shakti, Kadar, Kamal,. Etc - have not see any of her southies films,.. though,.. they never ran in our Ahmedabad at that time,... now i'am in USA )

During the engineering study , career time and those days, ages and span / period, she was our "Exam. Material for boost , energy for putting the labor towards study / recharging the battery sort of,.., .. Coz the sessional and weekly exams, vivas,.. Journals... were going on, endlessly , non stoply,... for months, in engineering, a new exam every Friday,... and unluckily, there were no means of recreation like,...TV Cell, PCs, even tape recorders were very few with Rich, and VCRs ( had also came , a little later ) nothing, at that time, to refresh / entertain us .

So, we all friends, were working hard for every Friday's exam,... but, always were sparing a few movies of Sridevi / Rekha / Hema purposely unseen,... Tohfa, Himmatwaala, Justice chaudhary, kind of,... and after every exam,.. on da very same day, were watching it with delight, for a burden/stress release in Quintaa...which was intentionally spared for a theater,...of that ' after exam time',.. and that would give us boost to now even work hard for another weekly exam for the next week,... !! For yrs, we friends had this rule and routine to watch a movie of her soon after that Friday's exam,...

And, we WERE watching her movie by hook or crook on that Friday's 3-6 or 6-9 show at any cost,.. Many times, at that time for the ticket of 2.65 or 3.65 Rs,..we had paid,...10-15 Rs easily,...in a black market,.. and then that lower caste mawaali guy was laffing, while looking at us with a cunning smile,... thinking,..

" Tumhein sauda karna nahin aata, What abunch of Fools n' Idiots " " and oumental r situation was smthg like that Deewaar's Amitabh,... "!

"Saudal karna toh sayad tumhein nahin aata,... Aaj tune jo 10 ke bajaye 30 Rs bhi maange hote naa, tau de dete,... Coz " She is dher " [ Sir Edmund Hillary style ! ]

Today, while sitting at the bulk of green-stuff ( USD ) and riding expensive cars, somewhere a feel is coming from deep inside,...that this success is also due to H E R , for providing a Boost-drink to work hard for the study,...for a temptation of an ultimate refreshment,...!

Bad day today,.. that the train has left the station,... :( Sigh !!

I will miss the brilliant actress and beautiful lady so much..she could have done more powerful roles like she did before..through English Vinglish she proved to Bollywood that middle aged actress can also do successful and good films..she would have continued to do powerful and impactful roles..I wanted to see her in comedy movies and a mature love story too..
I feel like someone dear has been snatched away from me because she was a part of my childhood..I can't imagine what her daughters are going through..

I love Sridevi's Cool Mom Ad So Much and it was done recently..she was forever charming and funny, super entertaining and lovable..

Thank you so much for this post. I was in the lookout for a topic to pour my heart out about Sridevi and I found one. I completely feel and share your pain regarding her demise. Though I've always loved Bollywood movies but it was Sridevi who actually introduced me to Bollywood films in my childhood and hence for me Bollywood is equal to no one but Sridevi. I've never been a filmy person, have neither worshipped stars nor been a fan of any except for Sridevi. Because she was different. She was magic on screen. The country has several reasons to love Sridevi. People have celebrated her beauty, dancing skills and appeal but for me she has been a source of extreme joy.
By the time I was of the appropriate age to watch films, she had already quit the industry after Judaai. So for me, the only source of Sridevi films was cable tv and I'm so thankful I got exposed to her frame of work. Mr.India was my first legit film and it changed my life completely. I don't think back then, any materialistic gift could even compensate for the joy I had in just watching the whole Chaplin sequence in the film. For me, Sridevi was Chaplin! God knows how many times in my life have I watched the film and the sequence and yet not get tired of it. Then came Roop Ki Rani and Chaalbaaz. The whole roadside comic sequence in the South Indian get up had me in splits.Same with her 'Jaani yeh chaaku hai' makeover of Rohini Hattangadi in Chaalbaaz.

And when I thought, she is the finest comedy actress I've ever seen, came Sadma and Gumrah. Only and only Sri could've pulled off what she did in Sadma. Nothing comes close to that. And then, that whole killing of the police inspector and escaping from the jail in Gumrah-Wow! And then her opting for an out and out negative character in Judaai- she made me hate her in the film for being so materialistic and willing to pawn her partner for money. I don't think there's even a single genre existing in the Indian film industry that she has not been a part of. And that's what I love the most about Sridevi. She brought in all shades of human character into a lead role-something that's usually seen only in supporting roles.
And then came her comeback with EV and MOM. As a fan' I'm so proud that she took her time and chose good roles for middle aged women on Indian screens (which we lack) rather than acting in any run off the mill movie just for a comeback. Both the films were such wise decisions on Sri's part because they were such impactful characters and showed a progression in even Sri's body of work and her craft. That 'aa gayi uski maa' still gives me chills everytime I watch the movie/trailer. There's a scene in Mom where she comes to the hospital to see her daughter for the first time, and being so worried, she rushes to the other side of the corridor and the nurse calls her and asks her to come to the opposite direction- it's a shot worth just a few seconds but the way she portrays that is mind-blowing! And I think this is one of the reasons why Sridevi was different. Those little, subtle emotions here and there that either brings a smile on your face or breaks your heart. Even when it comes to endorsements, Sri chose to be different with the Chings ad and portrayed a mom who wishes to do what she likes and not be stuck in the kitchen always for her kids. Sri was really mature with her choices.

I only wish that just like now, back then even I was old enough to celebrate Sridevi when she was a superstar like her fans. Life still gave me another chance with her comeback and I utilized it to full potential until her demise. I was very excited for Shiddat. Sri took four years to comeback with Mom and if she would have done Shiddat, her fans wouldn't had to wait for long to watch her back on screen. What breaks my heart even more was that she was still working. It's another thing if the actor in question is either unwell for a long time or disappeared into oblivion but here she was- ready with her second innings with full force and signing good scripts and suddenly she is gone. I guess that's why there's still a sense of disbelief even now that she has passed away.

Sorry for the lengthy essay and please excuse any grammatical errors because this is straight from my heart. I just HAD to share my grief somewhere to give relief to my heavy heart. People can judge her for whatever reasons, all I know that she is not a criminal and the only thing she has given to fans like me is abundant amount of joy and happiness through her performances. She was, is and will always remain to be the first female superstar of the country and the undisputed queen of comedy!

The only thing that makes me happy is that Sridevi bid goodbye to the screen the same way I saw her for the first time on screen in Mr. India- by being the queen of comedy!

I love Sridevi so much she could have done so much more brilliant roles like Sandra Bullock,Meryl Streep etc...A remake of Hollywood movie Mamma Mia with Sridevi would have been awesome...
I loved her in Chandni...Now the tune Oh Meri Chandni will turn into a sad melody in our minds...another brilliant song in the same film started "Aa Meri Jaan Main Tujpe Apni Jaan Rakdoon" But truth is even if we say Aa Meri Jaan countless times she won't come back..Now whenever I look at the Moon it will remind me of our Chandni 💔

Same here. I was totally swallowed by Madhuri mania.

So I am surprised at how devastated I feel over Sridevi's death. It is just sinking in how important she was in my childhood Bollywood experience.

Its becoming difficult to scroll through the forum with all the threads on her death. The dissection of her death and cause. The whole media circus making a fiasco out of someone's death. I thought I had the ability to not give a damn, but turns out I don't. Its hard to hold back the anger and tears.

This topic is one of the few nice ones I can keep visiting.

We all will miss her!!
Her pairing with Anil kapoor is still my favorite. God knows how many times I have seen Mr. India. She is always our hawa hawai. Khwabo ki shehzadi.
I still can't believe she is not with us!

She had said somewhere by herself at some occasion,. ,.. that at one time, her daughter had seen her's Movie 'Sadma' first time,
and after that, she had not talked with Sridevi for three Days, saying,... " Mom tum iis duniya ki sab se Boori Mom Ho "

... and that's how powerful, her acting remained ! Kudos !

Same here BI. 😭
Since her passing away it has been so disturbing, shocking & heartbreaking. Every minute, update & flashback of her is so difficult to endure, If only someone was present when it happened, it would not have come to this. She has not only had a huge impact in Bollywood & other industries she worked in, but in this forum too. True icon!!
