i am still in the state of shock...i can't believe sridevi is no more...
from my behalf...i am watching all her songs to pay my respect to this legend...there can be no sridevi ever...she is immortal

i pray for jhanvi and khushi to be strong...i could feel their pain as i went through the same pain in my teen years of loosing my father to an accident...i didn't even know abt his death...god bless the girls and hope jhanvi bring forward her mother's legacy..her mom will always be with her and guide her...

I don't think I ever reacted so strongly at the news of a celebrity death. I surprised myself. I thought Sridevi was a phenomenal actress and her sense of comic timing even beats the best comics in the industry. But I never thought of myself as a huge fan. Her death revealed that I was.
I've been reading up tributes and callbacks to all her movies - many of which I haven't even watched, because, let's face it, they were pretty forgettable. But the ones that shone, shone because of her. She elevated some movies solely because of her presence and her ability to light up the screen. Who can forget her Chaplin act in Mr. India or her comical mannerisms in Hawa Hawaii? Her expression at "soorat hi maine aisi payi" never fails to make me laugh. And Chaalbaaz. Boy, who would've ever thought that a movie made thrice over could make such an impact and end up being the best of the lot? And all because of Sridevi. Her performances in these over-the-top type roles stand out all the more because of who she was for real - a painfully shy introvert. Shekhar Kapur said she always gave more than she was asked for and that is so evident in her roles. She added something - a little nuance, a trait, a mannerism that stayed with you long after the movie's done.

Truly she giraooed Bijli whenever she was on screen. Yesterday I rewatched "Lamhe" - undisputedly my favorite Sridevi film, and found myself laughing and crying along with her. I rooted so much for Pooja that I was yelling so hard at Viren at times. Her scenes with Anupam Kher are so organic and their playful camaraderie is so fresh - it's hard to believe it was scripted. I was laughing so hard at her expressions during the classic song medley - she got "Ghar aaya mera pardesi" down pat and when she wringing out her pallu in "Pyar hua ikraar hua hai" - I snorted my tea right out from my nose.

I realized that the thing about her that set her apart was that she was able to make me notice every small detail in her acting - her breathlessness when she discovers Pallavi's photo on Viren's bedside table and she breaks into song, her excitement when Viren puts the necklace around her, her defiance when she professes her love for him, her amusement at Prem's antics, her reactions when sharing a playful banter with Prem, her shyness when she says she might age like Viren with gray in her hair, her eyes brimming with tears when she finally bids him goodbye, the incredulity when she learns its her mother that Viren loves and her feigned indifference when he asks to meet her non-existent husband - wow, she packs a punch in every one of these scenes and breathes so much life into a character that has stayed with me through all these years. And as Pallavi too, she manages to etch a mark, making that character so disparate, I almost forget she's played by the same actor. She made me believe she was an 18 year old in love with a much older man, though she and Anil Kapoor were probably close to the same age.

I loved "English Vinglish" too and being a Tamilian was so proud that a fellow Tamilian had managed to make a so-called comeback and prove that she still ruled the roost and was a force to reckon with.

I have always been "Team Sridevi" and will continue to be.

@lizzie...lamhe was phenomenal...she has the magic in her that she can overshadow her strongest male co-stars and can match them be it Rajinikanth,,,Kamal Hassan..Jeetendra...AB and Rishi Kapoor...
the film was a bold subject at that era...it did not work as the audience reject it...but sri devi performance was phenomenal that i read that she won a best actress award for that film and the audience loved her in it

gosh that fire and energy in that passion dance after viren slap pooja...the expression uff its killer

i am not her fan maybe becos i was baby when her films were out...but when i watch her films...i just adore her work...she represents our childhood memories...we grew watching her films...when Mr India came...i was born...when chandni came i was 2 yrs old...when lamhe came i was 4 yrs old...i have slight memories of mom watching her films at that time...but i only watch her films entirely as a audience when i was 16 yrs old...her works are phenomenal...

Cannot get over this still. And now that her last rites are finalised for tomorrow, I feel a deep unexplainable sadness come over me. It's such a strange, dull and empty feeling. I wish it was just a nightmare. I wish it was all untrue and she's very much alive. I was so eagerly looking forward to her next project. Now no more...can't come to terms with it.
Good bye Sri. Will always love and cherish you.

Lamhe had so many things going for it - a good director, an exceptional cast, a unique storyline, good songs, and phenomenal dialogue. Honey Irani's dialogue struck the heart and pierced right through it. Some lines never fail to evoke tears and they're so powerful.

I watched "Lamhe" in the theater when in high school. I was so involved and so moved when I did, and was dismayed when it sank at the BO. But not too surprised because the audience then was shallower than now and was unable to accept 'hatke' scripts. But I loved it and have watched it several times over since. And yes. Sridevi steals the thunder in every scene she's in, despite heavyweights like Waheedaji, Anupam Kher and Anil Kapoor. She outdoes her male co-stars everytime and it shows in the respect so many of them had for her as an actress and a performer. Look how glowingly another phenomenal actor, Kamalahaasan, spoke of her! Look how an internationally famed director like Shekhar Kapur, who's directed Oscar winner Cate Blanchett, says she's the best actress he ever worked with! Look how Rishi Kapoor says no female in any sphere of life could have achieved what she did!
What paeans of praise she received from stalwarts in the film industry who profess to have been inspired by her, tried to emulate her or just watch her with amazement.

I'm going to miss her but thank the lord I have her movies to fall back on every now and then.
