However, she was also one of those rare actors who aced comedy and brought them in mainstream films; otherwise actors who usually did comedy were slotted as 'comic actors' but Sri was probably one of the few heroines of her time who played the protagonist yet brought in a hint of comedy in whatever films she did.

I don't think we are ever going to get another actress who can match upto her comic timing. Juhi Chawla comes close from the next generation but Sri is Sri! ❤️
I was going through some of her funny scenes on YT and couldn't help sharing them here. I guess one of the best qualities in Sri's acting was that she made comedy effortless with those small little gestures here and there that made her comedy look very natural and enjoyable...

Like here in one of her most famous act till date..the Charlie Chaplin sequence from Mr. India- If I am not wrong she has been the only actress to have immitated Chaplin on Indian screen, right?

Like at 2.30 when she takes the dart and satisfactorily cleans her ear and rubs the wax on her sleeves
at 3.26 when she irritatingly aims for that goon for a second before throwing the dart on the dart board
at 5.33 when she is ready to fight with the kid and thinks it's going to be easy and then the kid whacks her and she shakes in hand in pain
at 6:19 when she doesn't believe what she is seeing and gets scared for a second when the goon points his fingers at her and then she boxes him and is proud of her achievment.

😆

Then her South Indian drama from Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja, where she creates a scene as a 'madrasi abla nari' to steal the necklace from Anil Kapoor

And here, at 0.53 when she starts her rant in Tamil and ends it with Aiyoo Machaa..
at 2.03 where she starts the drama like a possessed woman and shakes her hip and sings kothe mein jaakar naach dekhta, gaana sunta
at 4.04, when she comes with her comebacks on being asked to being forcefully kissed by the crowd with 'kahaan thookun ji?tumharein mooh par?'

😆

This scene from gair Kanooni where she steals Kader Khan's watch

At 2.06, where she tries to scratch her head but scratches Govinda's instead. 😆

The hospital chase sequence from Gurudev where she tries to take Rishi Kapoor out of the hospital full on tapori style!

At 1.49 where she shakes her hip and says 'Are ja ja, jaake apne stool pe baithko re'
At 2.08- Emergency! hu hu hu, hhey hey hey, ho ho ho...
At 2.18 where she tries to hide the matchstick so that no one recognizes her but gulps it down by mistake😆
At 6.05 when she opens the door with a forceful push from her bum and then at 6.20 when she again tries doing the same but the doctor opens the door and she is surprised.
At 7.53 when tries to flip open the bottle of the hair oil only to realise she has to actually uncap the bottle.
At 8.02 when she throws the oil like a ballerina all over the place so that the guys aren't able to catch her and she herself almost slips before escaping.
And at the end where she turns into the bandaged patient and sassily tells that interfering aunty in the train 'arey tu jaa naa'. 😆

Then this song from Gair Kanooni where she is dressed up as Goddess Lakshmi to cheat worshippers..

At 0.31, where her shoulders are paining and she is not able to sit still lke a statue
At 0.56, her exchanges with the police officer wrt the money being offered
At 1.31, where she turns her body a little to srcatch her leg while trying to stay still so that she doesn't get caught.
And at 1.22,where she finally stretches her legs and leaves with the money and the jewellery.

Then the Mr. India parody song..

At 3.40, where she responds to the kids making faces.
At 6.42 where she again acts possessed for having lost to the kids and Mr India and can't control her anger any longer and then the ending shot of the song. 😆

Even her last on stage performance at the IIFA Awards..around 1.35 minutes..when she tries getting into her costume and can't and then scolds the background dancers..so bloody natural!

And this is just a few of the god knows how many scenes and movies where she has effortlessly brought in comedy in a mainstream narrative successfully!

I hope we do get someone like her in the future who entertains us with her comic timing in mainstream cinema as much as with serous roles but I'm pretty sure, we won't get another actress like Sri! ❤️

SRIDEVI-The queen of eyerolls, the queen of comedy!

Was watching some last videos of Sri..I really don't want to speculate but can't help...was she really well and healthy before her demise?
Why does she look weak and a little unhappy in these videos? Someone actually walked her to stage in the HT style award video, she is also walking in a weird way, the same way she was walking in the marriage video...I don't know whether I'm reading too much into this, probably skipped my mind before, but now that I'm watching the vids..she somehow looks a bit unhappy in all her appearances before her demise... 😕

Manish Malhotra's tribute to Sridevi: I want the world to remember her as an exceptional person

Close friend Manish Malhotra penned a heartfelt tribute to Sridevi in a leading publication. He wrote about their friendship and the void in his life due to her passing away.

Written By Bollywood Blogger Mumbai Published: April 12, 2018 11:22 pm

Manish Malhotra penned a heartfelt tribute to late Sridevi in a leading publication. He wrote about her first meeting with her at Mehboob studio, how Sridevi greeted him with kindness and was very reserved. He said that they became close friends in the last seven years and that she always made it a point to attend his shows and returned the love and admiration.

Manish wrote, "As a wife, friend and mother to two lovely girls, she always gave her 200 per cent. She was, and I think will forever be, Boney ji, Janhvi and Khushi's best friend.

Manish and Sridevi were close friends. Manish recounts how he and Sridevi never indulged in any gossip; their conversations were always about food, movies and clothes.

"She now leaves behind a legacy of exceptional work. I want the world to remember her as who she wasan iconic actor, an exceptional person, someone who had her mind and her heart in the right place, Manish wrote.

He concluded, "I'd known her for 28 years. We were at a wedding together and then, out of nowhere, her sister Srilatha was handing me a silk sari for her funeral. I spoke to her the night she passed away. We talked about everything under the sun, from Janhvi's film, how beautiful Khushi looked at the wedding to even what she had eaten earlier that day. Even now, so many days later, I still expect my phone to ring, and to hear her discuss an outfit or a project which we can work on together.

T4S... Let's keep this thread alive.

Expecting lifetime achievement awards to be bestowed upon her through the next award season.

Like Oscars & Nationals, it will now be Filmfare's turn to ideally give her 2 lifetime achievement awards - one from south and one from Hindi.

Rehne ko sadaa dahar mein aata nahin koi
Tum jaise gaye aise bhi jaata nahin koi

Darta hoon kahin khushq na ho jaaye samundar
Raakh apni kabhi aap bahaata nahin koi

Ek baar toh khud maut bhi ghabra gayi hogi
Yun maut ko seene se lagaata nahin koi

Maana ki ujaalon ne tumhein daag diye the
Beraat dhale shama bujhaata nahin koi

Ahbaab ne ye kah ke sanwaari hain chitaayen
Aaram kahin aur to paata nahi koi

Saaqi se gila tha tumhein, maikhaane se shikwaa
Ab zahar se bhi pyaas bujhaata nahin koi

Har subah hilaa deta tha zanjeer zamaana
Kyon aaj deewaane ko jagaata nahi koi

Arthi to utha lete hain sab ashk bahaa ke
Naaz-e-dil-e-betaab uthaata nahi koi

A R Rahman: Srideviji said, I want to work with you. It seems prophetic now

Lasyapriya Sundaram| Apr 15, 2018, 01:00 IST

A R RahmanA R Rahman
Allah Rakha Rahman or ARR is a man of few words. That's because he lets his music do all the talking. After winning the National Award in the Best Music Direction and the Best Background Score categories for Kaatru Veliyidai' and Mom' respectively, the music maestro, in an exclusive conversation with BT, spoke about why winning the National Award is still special though he has seduced music lovers across the world with his compositions. Excerpts...
This is your first National Film Award in the Best Background Score category and the fifth for Best Music Direction. What are your first thoughts on winning not one, but two awards?

I am really happy. I want to thank Mani Ratnamji (director of Kaatru Veliyidai') and the team of Mom' Srideviji, Boney Kapoorji (producer) and Ravi Udyawar (director).

You have scored the background music for Mom'. How do you go about composing it, vis-a-vis creating the soundtrack of a film? Give us an insight into your process...

A film like Mom' needed to be driven by music. Ravi and I had collaborated on a commercial long time ago and that too, had won a lot of awards. He knew exactly what he wanted for Mom', but left it to me for my interpretation. I got the idea to compose a song like Muafi Mushkil' after I saw the film. In some films, background music is like wallpaper and in others, it is a character. It needs to say things, which the film is not saying or wants to say. I have worked with Boneyji and we wanted to collaborate again. In fact, Srideviji flew down from Mumbai to Chennai and told me that I have to do Mom's BGM. She also said, I want to work with you'. It seems prophetic now. The BGM of Mom is also my wife's favourite. When I was in Hollywood last month, she asked my agent there to listen to it. I was surprised, because she is not somebody who says or does anything like this. She screamed with joy when she heard that I had won the award for Mom'.

Having won innumerable awards and accolades over the years, does the National Award still hold a special place in your heart?

The National Award is definitely special because it is awarded by our Government. The jury is credible and they select films, which have been sidelined by other awards. Even Mom', I would say, was kind of overlooked at award functions. In a way, it feels good that the National Awards jury has recognised the hard work that went into the film. Mom' requires more exposure for the vision it comes with.
