I've read some posts here saying there should be no criticism whatsoever regarding any actresses' looks

While I understand (well, somewhat) where they're coming from, that's not realistic

In BW looks are given utmost importance like Katrina gets to play all the glam doll roles while Vidya gets to play a typical housewife. Visa versa would change everything and not go well with the audience.

Also such discussions mostly lead to fights and personal attacks on the forum. When anyone criticizes any actor's looks, the fans start pouncing like it's a war battle and start virtually killing each other. That's when the issue starts and ends in a bad taste.

Everyone does criticize looks of actors and they are supposed to be judged on every aspect as they get reviews from public and belong to the entertainment history. They go through surgeries for what then? They don't much work on their acting as much as they work on their looks. Then why not talk about it? "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder" phrase is quite misused in such cases as when someone's favorite actor gets criticized, this phrase is used to criticize the person's views. There can't be any debate on such things as it's a personal choice.

It will also differ from person to person.

I might like someone's physical body language, the physicality of someone's being and will like him solely for that even if he is what one might say 'traditionally bad looking' ..and I'm speaking from experience. I have fallen for some men like this - "traditionally bad looking" but their physicality was appealing! And no, I am not talking about charm.

The point I am trying to make is --- let's stop judging one another for our appreciation or criticism of beauty. And our right to hold opinions of whether or not "looks" matter, and what even constitutes 'looks' or where we'd want to look at when we go to cinema.

Live and let live. :p

I think I'm rambling too much... but hope I made sense.

I don't think looks matter. I don't find most actors to be good looking at all yet they have a huge fan following already. I guess its the success of a movie star that makes them desirable or hot to people. As long as they enjoy their movies they are the most good looking ones to them. Had good looking being such a big criteria in this industry most wouldn't have a career here today. I think grooming and a pleasing personality gets more points than just looks here. For me Hrithik is the most good looking one yet there are far more popular actors than him in today's time.

I think importance is subjective...what might be important for you need not be important for others...so you don't have the right to imply or expressly state that people are lieing when they say looks aren't important to them...to me,actors looking good is not necessary at all...sure they are in the public eye so when I find somebody's face good looking I say so...but it is not important or necessary...it is only a miniscule plus point to me...that too only during photoshoots or fashion stuff or sth...actually even fashion or photoshoots are so much more than good looks...in this regard I look forward to sonam or anushka or kangana more than I look forward to aishwarya...but coming back to movies and acting...a good movie with decent acting is what is important to me...you might get entertained by looking at a pretty face for over 2 hours,I don't.

Looks are important but if not backed by the talent of acting will not survive for long. Eg- Sid Malhotra and Shraddha's dwindling careers.

P.S- Rajkumar Rao lacks that commercial Hindi film hero presence. Watch him in the sweety tera drama song or that pallu latke song...in one he will go unnoticed and in the other he looked funny.
