Watched the film last night. I live in the US and the hype around this film is nothing like I have seen before and I have watched many BW films in theaters. People came out in droves, people of all races and ages. It was a beautiful sight. I absolutely loved the film and what made it more fun was the audience engagement. Everyone seemed really moved by the end especially the monologue that pays tribute to Padmavati. It got a huge applause.

Coming out of the theater, the only thing on my mind was Ranveer's portrayal of Khilji...damn, he was mesmerizing. This is one of his career best performances, up there with Bajirao Mastani. He is best fit in these larger-than-life characters where he's challenged to push the envelope. I hope the amazing response to his performance motivates him to take up more challenging roles. He has too much untapped potential as a performer to waste away on safe roles.

The 30 minutes of the film especially the climax scene was mind-blowing. Every single minute was gripping and engaging. Though I was disappointed with the raw deal Deepika got in the 1st half, she came out stronger in the 2nd half of the film and had very impactful scenes. I loved the silent strength of her character and how beautifully she emoted with her eyes throughout the whole film.
The supporting cast were all great and so was Shahid. Though the writing in the film failed him..his character did not have much scope nor did you feel connected to him. Aditi Rao looked extremely beautiful and graceful. Jim Sarbh was wicked and evil as Malik Kafur. His chemistry with Khilji was off the charts and quite surprising. I wanted to see more of their equation. 😛

All in all, a great cinematic experience. I don't go into any SLB film expecting a masterpiece or Oscar-level script-writing. I go for the grandeur and cinematic experience his films offer and he always delivers in that aspect. This film had the heart and soul Bajirao Mastani lacked IMO.

What I didn't like...the editing in a few parts were choppy and lacked cohesion. Some of the song placements were odd and I could have done without the Holi song and Kalibali. It just did not fit with the mood of the film. I was looking forward to Shahid and Deepika's chemistry in this film but their love story wasn't very well-developed and felt very rushed...this is is a main recurring problem with SLB that he needs to work on. I hope I get to see Deepika and Shahid in another film.

The theme music still resonates after I saw it this morning, it's one thing that's deeply imprinted in my mind. It's definitely unique in that it fits all 3 characters- turning sinister to hopeful, to fiery with the 'Rani sa' chant at the crescendo.

Likewise, I think all 3 characters had their time to shine, I like how the narrative flits to and fro Khilji-Afghanistan, Padmavati, Ratan- Chittor.

-Thought it made a refreshing change how Khilji appeared in comical light, the best part about his character was his 'humble' beginning. There was something quite endearing about his wooing with the ostrich and the way he revelled in Mehru's laughter.
That eccentricity added that layer as opposed to if it was just one tone of barbaricism.
-For once, I finally get the hype of DP-Shahid pairing, I loved how Ratan almost worshipped her with his deep, attentive gaze to actually touching her feet in the Holi song.
-Never been much of a Shahid fan but he should get more due with this role, his dialogue delivery was on point- the Rajput bravery talks would have sounded drab from any other actor. Just the sheer earnestness he lends to the character which I think only he could amongst the current crop of actors. I think he fills more depth than SLB had provided, it's clearly a vehicle for Khilji and Padmavati to shine yet he stands out despite being an 'enabler'. Definitely his better performances.
-Love the play-off between Shahid-Ranveer, it's quite uncanny how they come across as Mufasa-Scar, with Ratan's unending valour and pride and Khilji's bored drawl. And Padmavati-Ratan as Nala-Simba with their playful devotion, weird analogy, I know.

-Probably in the minority here, but found nothing novel about Kafar-Khilji's 'subtle' bond, somehow it played out just like I thought it would. Binte Dil was not needed, it would have played out perfectly fine without that as well as Khiji's victory dance.
-Some very predictable instances- like Khilji returning with the Mongol ruler's head. Ratan's unflailing morals yet again causing his death. Rajput warrirors emerging from the red ghoongats- ode to Troy?..lol
Even the palette, switing from Grey to Red-Cream but that's just how SLB rolls I guess. Thankfully not much furore/ attention paid over Ratan's second marriage.
-Scene that I'm surprised I liked- Goro Singh fighting after his head was cut off- chilling case of rigor mortis?..
-Ranveer was awesome in the way he inspired for a lack of a better word his dejected army by letting the flag fall- not a Braveheart type of speech but befitting of his Khilji, half arsed yet so effective.
-What prompted Mehrunisa to assist Padmavati, why was she scandalised that Khilji wanted to take on another man's wife, when there was much do about nothing about the other Hindu queen (from Delhi) he placed in his harem?
-After the rough deal DP got in BM, think she is fully validated here, got the chance to lead from the front. I really take back my words about her not looking pretty- she looked the best in her first and last shot. I think her dialogue delivery was put to the test, and she delivered in her speech when inspiring other women to have courage. Her voice has such a nice flowy, feminine texture but there was that added strength- just the right dose, not that you expect her to shout, 'FREEDOM' but it's empowering in the apt way for the scene, well as 'empowering' as jauhar was ever going to be-not that I support it's so called glorification (gosh this is like adding the disclaimer of Smoking being injurious to health). I'm glad her 2 year wait was not totally wasted.
She looked so strikingly fierce and stunning in the last shot- definitely an unattainable treasure worth having but 'you're never gonna have my body' (inappropriate Sheila Ki Jawaani reference).

Watched it yesterday.Excellent movie by SLB. Didn't felt bored anywhere except during Khalibali song. Not sure why people are complaining of movie being too long.
Performance wise Ranveer was great, Shahid held very well and did amazing in his part while deepika was good too (specifically in jauhar scene) - so much better than BM. GORA SINGH and BADAL fighting gave goosebumps - such moments of rajput Pride 👏👏 and last 30 minutes were highlight of the movie - deepika nailed the jauhar scene. Overall excellent movie by SLB to showcase rajputi bravery and culture and barbarian dynasty of Khijis , Character of Khilji came across as glorified but that could be bz of ranveer's charisma overall.

Forgot to mention how breathtaking beautiful did mehrunisa❤️ looked , she was overpowering deepika in terms of beauty in most of their scenes.

I saw it. I didn't like it as much as RL or BM but was enjoyable. Sets and action was well done. Story was ok. Wish dialogues were paid more attention to. SLB other films had some panache dialogues but not really in this one. Performance wise Ranveer gives his best. He is evil yet somewhat makes it cool. No ott except maybe one or 2 scenes. I loved the sequence of him and Jim when Him starts singing. That was a gem. Deepika did her part well. Shahid was kind of mis cast and kind of annoying. Aditi did well also. I loved to see Raza Murad after so long. Jim as I said played sidekick role very well. The film did get long at times. But a great climax made up for It. All in all Not SLBs best work but not his work. ⭐️ ⭐️ I give it a 7/10

By the way, I saw the movie yesterday with my entire family. The show was house full with not even a single empty seat and my dad had managed ticket with great difficulty. The movie is quite a frenzy here in Kolkata.
I loved the movie and so did my family.
It's Ranveer's movie. Period. He owns the movie. He plays the character like no body's business. Like a man possessed. He was simply terrific and lit up the screen with his terrific screen presence.
Others were good too. Of course. Shahid DP Aditi and the glorious Jim Sarv - all were good and did their parts well.
But frankly speaking with out Ranveer's bewitching Khilji and Jim's equally spontaneous organic Kafur this movie would simply have been a snooze fest.
I'm probably gonna back and write more about the movie. Still reeling under the charm of Ranveer even after 8 hrs of watching the movie. But I've a lot to say.

Ranveer Singh - what an aura. What a talent. Here I stand enthralled and totally Khali bali under your smoking intense gaze and deep menacing drawl.

For ormax lover 😆

Padmaavat's Buzz on #OrmaxCinematix over the last four months: The release date change meant that the campaign had to deliver twice, not just once. (Buzz is Ormax Cinematix's proprietary parameter that captures the talk value of a film before its release)

I don't know a thing about box-office figures or how they are calculated but for the first time, I find myself glued to the twitter accounts of trade analysts. I want the film to be a big success and I hope it holds up well over the week day and turns out to be a profitable venture for everyone involved . It would be the ultimate slap in the face to all the detractors that plotted against this film since it's inception, especially those jobless Karni Sena goons who dedicated a year of their time and energy to protest against a freaking movie. Success and audience acceptance would be the best revenge.
