Watched it. OMG the movie is amazing. It's RANVEER SINGH's show all the way. He nailed it man. He got so many applause in the theater basically for every dialogue of his. And if he is on screen with Jim⭐️ These two were too good👏
Deepika in the beginning looked and reminded me a little bit of Mastani but once you get into the movie you will forget that she is Deepika,it's Rani Padmini for you. Very very impressive.
And the second half belongs to her. Enough said. Last scene gave me chills. She got lots of cheers in second half and even for ghoomar.

I don't know what it was, Shahid didn't impress me. He was good in the last battle scenes though.

Aditi is so pretty. My God, she is such a stunner!! Loved her.

Watch it guys if you haven't already. Had been waiting for this for so long and had kept myself away from all the drama surrounding this movie,and didn't even read the reviews.
Loved it 4/5(being unbiased)

And last but not the least, the background score from the beginning till the end is damn impressive⭐️

#Padmaavat records the HIGHEST SINGLE DAY [note: Hindi film] in North America [USA and Canada] on Sat... Higher than #PK, #Dangal, #Dhoom3 and #BajrangiBhaijaan... #Padmaavat is a MONSTROUS HIT there... Figures coming up!

Strange how Alauddin Khilji emerges as the most fascinating character in #Padmavaat : when you push evil beyond a point it becomes terribly attractive. @RanveerOfficial achieves that.

Watched and review as under:
First 45 minutes of the movie sets the backdrop - it can feel like a drag, with no elevation in drama, but a straight line screenplay and more about Khilji's ascension to throne.

But the ball is set rolling after Ratan Singh and Khilji's meet and how!

After that, there is no dull moment..one event after the other..leading to the known and unfortunate end..the drama just hits the crescendo there!

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Direction - some scenes definitely felt stale, the lovestory in Singhal was like a replica of BM with roles reversed.

Also the Khali Bali song - was Khilji's Malhari..it was eerily similar..dint like it at all, because it just ended up reminding of Malhari

and the last scene - SLB has played the trope of closing the door/ gate - Devdas and now here..to end the movie. It worked both the times, but it did feel stale this time.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Music - Ghoomar was magnificent! what a pleasure watching it on 70 MM..so was Binte Dil - Mahn what an exceptional tune and this was seriously a unique presentation!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Screenplay and cinematography - dint like the extremely dull palette of the movie..Bhansali has progressively opted for more dull frames, with each passing movie, but this time, maybe it was intentional considering the dark times ahead for Chittorwasis, but even the holi festival was so sepia-ish to look at..or is it just me..because I watched it in 3D format

Screenplay - was in my opinion pretty good..
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Characters/ actors -

Ranveer - Khilji - He is unbelievable! Binte-dil song is enough to prove what this man is capable of..he plays the manic, pyschopath, power-hungry and lustful emperor to such perfection! There were many a times, I couldnt get over, how good his performance was...I mean Khilji is sick..and Ranveer plays the character to boot literally..he owns this movie from the first frame literally..one just dreads the next thing, he will end up doing! Watch the shot, where he goes like "Manzoor hai" to Padmavati's demands..PERFECTION, or is waiting for Padma to arrive..! The madness, the lust, the discomforting excitement..he makes one feel sick in the gut! He had many equations in the movie, with Ratan Singh, with Mehru, with Malik Kafur, with his Chacha Jaan and with the one woman who he wanted and couldnt acquire..most scope to perform, most difficult role to nail as well..and he does it with Aplomb!

Shahid - Ratan Singh - frankly I really liked Shahid, I found him impressive in the posters, and dull in the trailer..but he was pretty good in the movie..I see most reviews going against him..and I am noone's fan..but seriously I did think Shahid played the respected and courteous king pretty well..his dialogue delivery was actually really good..and the chemistry he shares with DP! just wow..I actually think he and DP look so serene together..compared to her with Ranveer/ RK onscreen..

Deepika - She looked every bit the gorgeous beauty from start to end..I loved her sitting stance in Singhal days..it was a very Sinhalese manner of sitting..bent from behind..

I am not sure why her eyes looked like they were on the verge of breaking into tears everytime though..overdose of glycerine..

But she had some seriously powerful scenes and barring the accent, she did pretty well..and for all the limitations..I think there wasnt anything more that could be shown towards Padma - her beauty, her knowledge, her strategic mind, military genius and her bravery- all were shown through the course of the movie..and special mention to outstanding dance performance in GHOOMAR! just masterclass!

Climax sequence is so haunting, I ll take some time to get over it..unfortunate, tragic, heartbreaking and earth-shattering..I think a lot of us, almost wanted to get up and stop the women from jumping into the fire..but the way Padma embraces it - the last shot of DP is so damn haunting..chils run down the spine..we definitely debated if there was a way out..and frankly there dint seem any..no other kingdoms were ready to support Chittor..and Khilji's army was in abundance and everywhere..

Jim Sarbh - was fantastic - he was entertaining in gut wrenching manner! Him and Ranveer were such a treat to watch together..two psychotic, maniacs..the way these connected..terrific chemistry! The master-servant with sexual hints/ undercurrents relationship performed to the T!

Aditi was good..nothing special, so as the actress who played the Badi Rani- Nagmati - infact she was pretty bad, her accent was anglo and she was hardly there anyway..she was a lot better in TZH..

The actors who played Raghav Chetan, Gora Singh, - great job!
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Ill go with 3.5/5 - 0.5 extra for RS, Sasha, DP and Jim!

b:No it wasn't edited...That was the whole idea of that scene...We even hear Allauddin cribbing about it later- that they tricked him and didn't even let him see her shadow fully...

c.He hardly saw anything there...it was just for a fraction of a second and on the top of it she covers her face with that smoky pot or something...

d.Sorry, I am not sure about this! Try youtube though...

1. Oh - I mean 2:22 from the official trailer not the other mirror one. I thought they would have this scene once he 'lost' Padmavati but is still king, or perhaps when Ratan Singh agrees to show him Padmavati (I thought there would be a time lag between asking / accepting). I don't remember this scene in the movie.
2. Hmm seemed very short to me given this was basically the whole point of the movie. I thought he sees her reflection in the water and then becomes obsessed. Also, they didn't seem to make much of a big deal out of it - felt like he causally asked and one scene later it was okay lol. I would have liked to have seen this more fleshed out / dramatised.
3. Ah I meant right at the end of the film where she is going into the fire. I thought the last woman would be going into the fire when he comes... but it looked like she was the only one...
4. No probs.

Idk to me this film felt more like Khilji vs Padmavati's movie, not because of poor acting, but because Ranveer was in almost every scene! I was actually getting frustrated, I got he was bad within the first 20 mins, so I don't need a million more scenes to show this. It only got interesting when he interacted with other characters (like the swapping of plates) because it showed his character... but there are just too many "sole" scenes of him imo. I wanted to see more Padmavati scenes (even just herself) and the great other things she did. I felt that wasn't developed enough especially for a film of this kind. I think it would have made her last act even "greater". But maybe these scenes got edited before there were more protests. She seemed like a Mastani in this movie because I lacked the context of what else they do as a queen...

Also I don't get what all the whining is about in the last scene. I really liked it. I was shaking. The sound, the effects, the acting, everything was top notch. It is not glamourised if you view the scene in the right way. From what I understood, he is trying to create a "noise" environment, but she is so in love and focused on what she needs to do, nothing else matters. To get that contrast you need the music etc as its hard to show otherwise imho. Also, the fact that this this the only option left, go out with a bang I say... why be subtle. That is equivalent to accepting defeat.

Okay.. so watched Padmaavat today.. It was visually amazing with some great performances but not without flaws..

It was definitely Ranveer's show all the way.. People are debating about his portrayal being OTT and not as per the history.. but to think about it, if his character was also presented the same way as the Rajputs.. it would have been a long boring history class.. Khilji's character brought a zing to the narrative.. otherwise the Rajputi ussool became a drag after a while... I just wish this muvi had come after some gap btwn BM.. coz in some scenes u could see the characters nd their dialogue delivery overlapping.. Like I felt Khilji talking like rao sometimes and Padmavati toh felt like just another version of Mastani..
I loved the scene where Khilji is waiting for PAddy to arrive in Delhi.. He is all shy with lotus in his hand sitting on the throne, nd when Ratan comes instead his change in expression and the rant 😆
I would prefer Khalibali over Malhari for now... Also Binte Dil was amazing.. just that when I heard the song, I imagined it with Khilji dreaming about Paddy.. but it was Jim and Ranveer.. nevertheless it was good.. But why the heck was that Holi song there.. bland song and it added nothing to the story..
Shahid Deepika definitely had chemistry.. but they need a good story focusing on them.. here they looked like annoying love puppies...
I was apprehensive about Shahid's role, since he looks nothing like a king.. but still he managed to give a good performance...
Loved Aditi.. she shined in her small role.. it would have made sense if someone less beautiful would have done her role, it looked like Khilji already had such a nayab wife, why chase after Paddy 😛 Aditi defo needs to be given bigger roles in A list muvis...
I might be in minority, but Jim didn't impress me much.. he was the one I found a lil OTT here and there.. also was the accent his real one or did he put it on? any which way, it was confusing..
Lastly.. Deepu.. beautiful, expressive eyes.. but thats it.. she still needs to work on her dialogue delivery.. same one tone in every movie.. Enough now.. SLB plz take someone else in your next, deepu needs to do more modern roles..
But credit has to be given for the last scene.. Very charging.. with the BG score and everything, deepu was very effective there..
Also the one on one fight scene between Ratan and Khilji was amazing.. nd the way Khilji charges after Ratan knocks off his head gear.. Loved Veer there as well...
Okay will stop here.. will rant about other things in another post 😛
