The whole movie runs around a single man who is none other than Ranveer Singh. The star hero plays villain role in this movie and will be seen as wildebeest with mind blowing arrogant ways. The grandness in his character is shown so clearly in all aspects. https://goo.gl/8fRfeJ

I finally watched the film today.. It was a very well presented film and had some spectacular performances..
Coming to the characters Khilji was the most interesting character out of the lot , lots of emotions and equations, there was anger, lust , strength, heroism, humor. certainly a very well written role. Ranveer worked with the material and aced it. What a fabulous actor

Padmavati she was beautifully presented Loved the singhal portions more DP looked ethereal in them and I think this is one of her most seamless performances, the transition from being a singhal princess to being a rajput queen flowed easily.
I loved her in the climax .. her eyes so expressive and she emotes so well.. Also the scene where she talks to the other ladies the dialogue was powerful but so was her body language and every pore in her body. you could feel it.

Shahid as Ratan singh, I did not like the role to be honest. Shahid is a great actor loved him in haider but in P he was out of sorts the body language also did not suit him . looked very petit and dint look like a king who commands authority. His chemistry with DP also worked only in patches.. There was no fire. but I felt a connect only during the singhal portions..

Jim and Aditi were good in their portions.. jim and Ranveer had a great rapport and I loved their scenes together...

Aditi was good in her portions although a guest role , it had scope for performance.

The first half was a little slow. the Rajput usool bit was too much by the end of it.. everyone in my theater laughed when Khilji plays around with the plates .. It was one of the best scenes.

Then the other one where Khiji is waiting for Padmavati and Ratan goes to meet him. and Khilji says oh its you again..
also the Tum kiten acche ho dialogue.

I really wish they had not cut short the mirror scene.. Wouldve been brilliant.

The one on one combat was too good. I loved how they executed it. Then the CLIMAX was too good. DP was brilliant in that bit.

It had many wonderful sequences one of my fav's being Khilji riding into the sandstorm and then coming out with the head of the mongol ruler impaled on a spear.

The ghoomar sequence was spectacular 😳

Watcha it Finally!
The movie is all about khilji but they have no guts to show real barbaric, inhuman side of that beast and what the population under his brutal rule and the land he conquered suffered...bhansali has unjustifiably mellowed down his character...the Islamic barbarism that was carried on for centuries is reduced to a stereotype lover boy act🥱...in return he compensated by showing rajput glory and valor and I am expected us to get swayed by it.duh

All these years j was in favor of bhansali's penchant for Bri ring historical characters alive on big screen...No more.

Despite that I am so so happy that the movie is running extra ordinary at BO...and I am also thankful to Karni sena which has managed to scare the shit outta bollywoodiya...so that the next time before laying their filthy handr on our history or religion they will do proper research/thinking at least😆

A lot of history that dates back hundreds of years was not written down or documented and instead was passed down verbally through poems, bards and folk songs. This is especially true of the Rajputana, because Rajasthan was invaded continuously for centuries from outsiders and it was only after Shah Jahan came to rule India, that he made permanent peace with the Rajputs. Now every time, a fort was invaded in Rajasthan (and they almost, always lost every battle), whatever history they had documented invariably got destroyed. Hence, the history of Rajasthan is a mix of fiction and fact.

Take for example the fact that Padmavati was a princess from the Singhal Kingdom, the present day Sri Lanka. Now in those days, Hindu's would never cross water, it was considered very inauspicious. In fact, this mindset was prevalent well into the 20th century too. Sri Lanka is an Island and to reach the princess, Ratan Singh would have had to cross the Sea. No way, would an orthodox Hindu King every do that. Also, the logistical impossibility of travelling all the way from Rajasthan to Sri Lanka seems improbable in the 13th century. The Afghans, Mongols and the Turks were nomadic in nature and hence they could travel for months, but not the Rajputs, who never stepped out of Rajasthan.

It was only when Jayasi published his Padmaavat, that the mention of Queen Padmavati comes to light. A poet named Narayanchandra Suri had written a very similar story two hundred years before Jayasi which became the base for Padmaavat. Jayasi's patron was a Rajput King and hence he made all his characters Rajputs, probably in order to please him. Hence, if you look at it from Jayasi's point of view, Padmavati was a completely fictional character. He as much as declares in the poem that he has imagined all the characters for his poem.

Amir Kusro was a legendary historian who accompanied Khiji when he set out to attack Chittor and has documented the siege of Chittor and the capture of the Rana. He doesn't mention Padmavati's name anywhere and or do any other historians during that period. Kusro doesn't even name Ratan Singh as the ruler of Chittor, and just refers to him as Rai in his chronicles. There is no mention of Jauhar also anywhere, though Kusro does write about Khilji ordering his soldiers to massacre around 30,000 Hindu men when they conquered Chittor.

There are four type of ideal women described in Hindu scriptures and Padmini is supposed to be the best among them, and this is most probably why Jayasi names the heroine of his poem as Padmini or Padmavati. Uptill Jayasi's Padmaavat, there is no mention of the Queen.

So, I suppose what happened was that people started mixing up fact and fiction and as the story kept passing down generation after generation, the legend of Padmavati was born. Khiji and Ratan Singh are historical figures where as Padmini is not. But it all got mixed up, thanks to Jayasi.

It seems the social media, is still unhappy about what SLB has shown and it's also said that Johar was done even before the final war " Rajputana's Kesariya " had took place.

This one article came to read, ( below link - in Hindi ) I found it interesting in its own way,... which gives few more controversial differences, from film to the reality,... ! God only knows what was the truth and how far,.. !

SLB's Padmavat -- What was the truth ??

You seem to be in a minority here most people thought Khilji was made too black to make the contrast with the Rajputs .. Apart from being all this he was a brilliant ruler one that made very good reforms and things like that.

I think it was poetic justice that Khilji doesn't get to see Padmavati despite all the massacre & destruction he does & wins the war . The climax was fabulous & was executed very well. Deepika looked drop dead gorgeous there & she was exceptional in that Jauhar scene .
