KHILJI ruled the screen ..

But my fav will remain Bajirao Mastani. Khilji was great but I am a sucker for romance and hence BM for me

I love him as Bajirao but as Khilji he just hit it out of the park. This is such a difficult character to play and he did it with elan without hamming. Give this role to any other actor and they would mutilate it. After seeing him as Khilji, I firmly believe he is the best we have.

Sorry if that offends fans of other actors but I am a biased fangirl who loves her baba, so the opinion of others does not matter to me. I am too blissed out to care😆

Yes I know I am glad he hit it out of the park..
Haters were waiting to see him go OTT .. But instead he became the best thing about the film So proud of him.👏

This just being his 10 th film. No one can play Khilji as well as he did..

The leaves thingy mustve been a ritual I dont know what it is .

Th scene where Khiljis sees Padmavati its a reflection ,, the smoke pot covered her face . I really wish they hadnt edited that scene.. it was too rushed.

I think Pandit was unable to believe her sharpness/smartness and was spying to find out.

I didn't understand a few things in the film.

1. Why was the pundit spying on Deepika and Shahid?
2. Why in the end did Deepika and the other wife exchange leaves?
3. In the scene where Ranveer sees Deepika - was it a reflection - or the smoke pot thing was the only thing covering her.
I am watching it again this week want to understand more.

They were exchanging Tulsi leaves. In erstwhile Rajputana families, when men went to war and women readied themselves for Jauhar, the last thing they consumed were Tulsi leaves, because Tulsi or Holy Basil is considered one of the holiest things in Hindu culture.

Not many people might be aware, but Jauhar was actually conducted a day before the men went off to war, when they knew that defeat was certain. All the women and children of royal families (including that of the soldiers) exchanged tulsi leaves and committed Jauhar.

The next morning, men folk would smear the ashes from the burnt remains of their wives and children and would tie the Kesaraiya turban and put a Tulsi leaf in their mouth as they went out for war.

In Jayasi's Padmaavat, Khilji looks at Padmavati's reflection in a pool, as her palace was in the midst of a lake and she stood besides the window to look down into the water. But some translated versions of Padmaavat state that Khilji saw her reflection in a mirror. Khilji is able to see her clearly and that is how he gets so besotted by her.

In the movie, probably in order to avoid any more controversy, Bhansali created a scene where Khilji is barely able to see the Queen. In the scene before, Padmavati comes out, her maid gives her a pot of smoke and tells it will protect the Queen from the Sultan's evil eye.

If you look at the movie's trailer carefully, there is a scene where Ranveer is staring inside a mirror in a mesmerized manner. In fact, there is a poster also with that particular moment. That scene is missing from the film. In all probability, that scene was originally shot, where Khilji gets a look at Padmavati through the mirror. Bhansali must have edited it out when Karni Sena circus got out of hand.

Oh thanks for clearing that out. In the film the women committed jauhar only after Ratan was killed..

That was only to add to the drama of the climax. But historical account of Jauhar state that women and children committed Jauhar a day before the war.
