Fukrey Returns and 4 other sequels of 2017 that worked wonders at the box-office

Fukrey Returns, a film which hasn't received flattering reviews from critics and is devoid of any big star, has registered a collection of over Rs 8 crore on its opening day at the box-office to take everyone by surprise.

Fukrey Returns Movie Review: Even Varun Sharma's funny antics fail to save this messy sequel

The remarkable collection proves that the brand Fukrey is bankable and it was a smart decision on the part of the makers Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment to come out with a sequel. It's been four and a half years since the release of the film's prequel but fans, it seems, still share a connect with the Fukras. If nothing else, figures prove that.

2017, in particular, has proved to be a lucky year for the sequels. Barring a few exceptions, most sequels released this year turned out to be box-office hits. Besides Fukrey Returns, Jolly LLB 2, Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Baahubali 2 and Golmaal Again enjoyed great success at the ticket windows. It was the brand value of franchisees that worked wonders for the success of these films. Below, read more about their success stories:

Jolly LLB2

Jolly LLB 2 became a huge box-office hit what with the presence of a big star like Akshay Kumar and audience embracing its content. While most critics felt that the prequel, Arshad Warsi starrer Jolly LLB, was a better made film, the brand Jolly LLB overpowered everything and helped Jolly LLB 2 to post a respectable collection of Rs 117 crore in the domestic market.

Badrinath Ki Dulhania

Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt's Badrinath Ki Dulhania was not exactly a sequel to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania but given that the theme of the film was more or less the same and the lead stars were making a return, it was termed a sequel to the 2014 film. Once again, a large chunk of audience found the prequel a better watch. But that didn't stop them from showering the sequel with all the love. It earned an astounding Rs 116.68 crore.

Baahubali 2

A pan-India film was a myth before SS Rajamouli's magnum opus Baahubali 2came out. The film shattered almost every record in the book with staggering collection of over Rs 500 crore (Hindi version). The success that the Prabhas and Anushka Shetty starrer enjoyed was unprecedented.

Golmaal Again

As we write this, Golmaal Again is still running in some of the theatres and that speaks a lot about a film that hit the screens on Diwali about one and a half months ago. The Rohit Shetty directorial, starring Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Tabu, Kunal Kemmu and Shreyas Talpade in the lead roles, posted a whopping total of over Rs 263 crore to prove that the brand Golmaal was bankable even after 11 years of its inception.
