@bold - even though I'm quoting this from wikipedia, the same is being reiterated by numerous rajput women who are voicing their concerns over the movie's content.

first of all a Maharani performing Ghoomar would be a very rare occurrence in Royalties...and on top of that even the traditional ghoomar attire was not followed, even while making a Maharani like padmavati dance to it.. so what is being projected in the song is just another bollywood dance number in the guise of Ghoomar... obviously questions will be raised about what more creative liberties SLB has taken in the film.

HAHA I read "Skin Show and Face Show" I was like W*F? Who wrote this stuff?

So I went to Wiki edit history and it showed all the bold parts were actually added on 20 Nov 2017, like literally yesterday. And there is zero references provided while also claiming "confirmed".

Before yesterday, this was what the entire wiki said

Ghoomar is a traditional folk dance of Rajasthan, India. The dance is chiefly performed by veiled women who wear flowing dresses called ghaghara.[1] It was ranked 4th in the list of "Top 10 local dances around the world" in 2013.[2][3] The dance typically involves performers pirouetting while moving in and out of a wide circle. The word ghoomna describes the twirling movement of the dancers and is the basis of the word ghoomar.[4][5] According to the tradtional rituals, newly married bride is expected to dance ghoomar on being welcomed to her new marital home.[6] Ghoomar is often performed on special occasions, such as at weddings, festivals and religious occasions.[7] which sometimes lasts for hours.

Until Oct, the page always mentioned that Ghoomar was traditionally performed in Sindh, Pakistan too but now the Pakistan stuff is removed. So much for historical accuracy 😃

Still laughing that someone actually edited the wiki with "Face Show and Skin Show" 👏

I know what u are saying that is why is wrote @red.

because earlier it was not there on wikipedia and even i had written in some post that only rajput women protesters and women from the royal gharanas are saying this abt ghoomar, while wikipedia doesn't say anything about that ... so obviously it was edited later by someone to add that content...including the pics... cos I'm pretty sure they also weren't there before...(though I might be wrong abt those pics).

if you find any reliable source that dismisses the arguments about "face show and skin show" then I'm all ears and eyes...cos all the pics I have found abt ghoomar (traditional ghoomar not the SLB version of it) are similar to the one posted on wikipedia where women are fully clothed with even a veil covering their face.

There are people who still believe that it is dishonorable for the noble woman to dance in front of the crowd and dance with the dasi'.The irony is India honors the dancers by giving Padma awards and the minister even posted the traditional clip of the recent ceremony praising the Indian culture.

A woman showing even a little bit of waist is disgraceful, swaying it as part of the traditional dance moves will instantly will be termed it as belly dance. Doesn't it hint that the woman who shows waist is disgraceful and they actually do it for attracting attention.

we are talking about 13-14 century when traditions, customs and dressing styles were vastly different from the current times... otherwise people would have protested for deepkia's "mai lovely ho gayi yaar"too...but in-contrast no-one batted an eye for that cos it is considered normal for the current era. no-one considers dancing as dishonorable in current era...times have changed u see.

Padmavati the women burn her body alive to save her dignity is considered as the goddess, in short the goddess can be helpless and will leave with no option other than suicide. I am not belittling the sacrifice of padmavati but considering her action as Godly is conveying a wrong message, no wonder in many villages of Rajasthan a woman is considered as non-entity after the death of the husband and in some villages even untouchability of widow woman is practiced.

if you are seriously comparing Johar with suicide and sati then it's useless to even debate with u on this point, or any other points... I give up

so you mean to say, there wouldve been no protest, no violence, no threats if DP was wearing a top like other background dancers ???

Like seriously... Showing a tiny bit of waist is now distortion of history and attack on our culture?... This is mainstream commercial film not a documentary...

Not to mention that no one can say with certainty about what was prevalent in 12th century. ... Thats why there is a certain section of people that question whether padmavati was even a real figure or not

... Btw let's delete ghoomar.. And instead add a R rated suhaag raat scene between padmavati and the king ... Then karni sena and the likes will be happy... Husband and wife making love should be historically accurate... Right??

If Rajasthani has so much prob with such waist then why their state has so many semi nude sculptures of ancient Indian women ?
Nudity should be the last thing for the controversy.India is filled with erotic women sculptures .

point 1 - trailers and song indicated what to expect from the movie

point 2 - the song showed a rajput queen dance on a ghoomar ( a very rare occurrence, if not totally false)

point 3 - on top of showing padmavati dancing, she was also given a costume that's not synonymous with Ghoomar...another inaccuracy.

point 4 - if these many inaccuracies were not present on the first exposure of padmavati to the public then I'm quite certain that the whispers abt SLB playing with Rajput history would not gained strength but the ghoomar song definitely added fuel to the fire of suspicions regarding distortion of history. in absence of that song there would have been little to indicate that SLB is taking too many 'creative liberties'... ofcourse how meek Ratan Singh is being portrayed in comparison to Khilji in the trailers and posters etc. is another matter too.

Nah... They would have found something else to nitpick... Was anyone in india aware of karni sena before? ... Now everyone knows their name and they have got political mileage... As much as people say that this is PR by the movie makers, the truth is that political orgs look for opportunity like this to go pan india...

why just Rajasthan? entire india was very open regarding matters of sex and nudity. we have ajanta ellora, kjhajuraho, kamasutra etc etc

but after barbaric invaders like khilji started destroying the existing culture & social situations changed.

the situations during Padmavati were not similar to the times when nudity and sex were treated normal in India...even today we are not comfortable with it.
