Yesterday i was talking to my relatives who live in U.P...around meerut belt , moradabad etc and they all were complaining of this weird fog and weird feeling in throat 😕
Can the crop burning affect reach there too ?? Delhi is always affected every year around this time but these places are quiet far from delhi .

It's the entire northern belt that is affected not just Delhi. You only hear about Delhi because all the VIPs and media lives there. Its just particulate matter and ash in the air which hints at crop burning

That model will never be applicable in pujab and haryana. Govt need to invest in bio plants or other usages.

Ok ...I don't know much about farming... but I hope they find a long term solution fast 😳

what about states like west bengal, orissa etc... there also i think rice production is quite good ...

yes Gov investing in bio plants is a necessity...

same reason- machines are used. Also west bengal and orissa do not have fog and winter problem. Hot air rise and disperse where as cold air stays thus unable to remove smog.
And there is also money. In haryana punjab people use gas for cooking (most of them). So they do not need straw where as orissa bihar etc are poorer where people can use it as fuel. We used to do it 10-12 years back. Every waste was used either for cattles or as fuel.

Also the timing. Wheat is needed to be sown by Nov second week. So rather than collecting the waste they simply burn it. This region is heavily irrigated and many farmers grow 3 crops a year which decreases the time gap between them.

There are many small and big reasons. The thing farmers will never do anything if there is no gain for them. So the problem. Also no govt or party will go against farmers. They are the biggest vote bank. So in the end, there will be no action against farmers and govt seems in no hurry to solve this problem. Odd even chalega bas Delhi me. Haryana punjab me koi kuch bol hi nahi raha hai.

@bold-ok.. I'm a bit confused...u said that in haryana & punjab machines are used so if machines are used in WB and orissa too than straw standing problem would be there too like haryana & punjab...isn't it? so do they burn it too like Haryana & punjab ..or use some other option? I'm just curious...

sometimes IF can be good platform to learn new things...and I'm not being sarcastic 😳

I don't think odd even se bahut zyada fark hone wala hai...but right now anything's better than nothing

and burning all that straw...such a waste ... that could be used for cattle food...but then like u said the issue about time gap...😒

kuch to soultion hona chahiye...this cannot continue at the expense of clean air...😳

I suppose, court put a ban on Diwali crackers for testing purposes (whether environmental pollution is due to that). Results show, it is deeper than that. (Also the smog in Lahore). This is not a problem which can be rectified in jugaad. It needs years/decades of planning and sincere work.

That's true! It has nothing to do with crackers.. That's a lame excuse given by the govt. At least people are raising this issue in India and important people are talking about it since Delhi is the capital but here in Lahore no one cares about health and well being of people. I fell sick consecutively for the 2nd time as I am living in Lahore for two years now! It will take years of planning and good governance to get rid of this issue, which I highly doubt is possible in Pakistan as long as sharif monarch is going to reign!

umm thats wrong info circulated by so many people on social media including these celebs..
that video footage is from Dec 2016 when almost 26 vehicales collided on yamuna expressway and lot of onlookers took videos from different angle..

someone posted that video on YT as a reminder that what smog can lead to..few whatsapp and twitter users picked it up and it got viral in less than few hours..I wish people review the authenticity of such videos before sharing it everywhere..no offense to you here but this is how wrong info travels everywhere and social media is to be blamed..

Um I didn't hear this from any social media like WhatsApp/Facebook.
I read it on a news website. Indian express to be precise.

https://www.google.co.in/amp/indianexpress.com/article/cities/delhi/yamuna-expressway-smog-accident-dhankaur-4927836/lite/

There's the link. They don't mention anything about it taking place in 2016.

Edit-. Since you mentioned so, I read further. NDTV has also reported it as to happening two days ago.
