And how I was wrong of this government. Disappointed is an understatement.

Yeah same.. But then I feel the team has been cautious ever since that statement of hers. I understand where it came from but that did throw things under the bus. more and more politicians came into the mix supporting the sena.

it was sure that the film wouldnt be allowed to release before the elections. So VIACOM took all the blame upon them.

The male leads also havent said anything about the issue.. nor SLB..

Yes and here bollywood was coming out of the commercial acumen and making all sorts of lovely cinema, this would have been a feather in its cap too, maybe there is something controversial, but i doubt it is religious based, its more about rulers and historic events, so perspectives and versions of history are different in different zones and the authenticity is always debatable, let the maker give his pov, then public decides if they liked it or not

There is nothing controversial. Song and dance are part of Indian cinema and culture the sena based their arguments on an article about the possibility of a dream sequence between khilji and Padmavati..
which the team clarified was never part of the film..

Then all hell broke loose they saw it as an opportunity to cash in on.. get some fame.. They had done the same during Jodha Akbar too..

Cinematic liberties are also allowed right? i dint find anything wrong in Padmavati's dressing in Ghoomar she was covered up and also it was just the raja watching her, the servants who entered with him stood facing the other side.

"Padmavati" Cleared For UK Release But Producers Say Won't Do It

"Padmavati" Controversy: The 190-crore film's release in India has been delayed because of a litany of controversies, mainly protests by Rajput groups who allege that a legendary queen has been depicted falsely.

'Padmavati' Cleared For UK Release But Producers Say Won't Do It

Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have banned "Padmavati" which stars Deepika Padukone.

NEW DELHI:

HIGHLIGHTS

  1. British Board of Film Classification has cleared the film with 12A rating
  2. Producers say they won't screen in UK before it's cleared in India
  3. Extra security for Deepika Padukone, Sanjay Leela Bhansali after threats
Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati", which is held up in India over protests and bans in three states, has been cleared for release in the UK by the country's censor board. The film's producers, however, say it will not be screened in British theatres before it is cleared in India.

The British Board of Film Classification has cleared without cuts the costume drama with a 12A rating - meaning it cannot be viewed by a child below 12 unless accompanied by an adult - for December 1 release. The board has listed the film on its official website, with the comments: "moderate violence, injury detail."

But the 190-crore film's release in India, also slated for December 1, has been delayed because of a litany of controversies, mainly protests by Rajput groups who allege that their legendary queen has been depicted falsely.

The censor board led by Prasoon Joshi has yet to watch the movie. Viacom-18, the studio that produced the movie, has indicated to NDTV that the release may be put off to next year.

Three BJP-ruled states, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, have said they will not allow the screening of the movie starring Deepika Padukone unless the protests are resolved.

The main group protesting against the mega-budget film is the Rajput Karni Sena, which alleges that the story of Padmini, the 13th-century Rajput queen, has been distorted and the movie suggests a romance between her and Delhi sultan Alauddin Khilji.

The legend is that after her husband was killed in battle, Padmini chose to jump into a pyre to avoid being taken captive by Khilji, who was obsessed with her beauty.

Historians are divided on whether Padmini actually existed. She featured first in the 16th century epic poem "Padmavat".

The film's main lead Deepika Padukone and director Bhansali have been given extra security after threats of violence.

A BJP leader from Haryana, Surya Pal Amu, offered 10 crores on the weekend for their beheading. After being castigated by his party, he put out a new threat, this time to burn every cinema if the film is released.

Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone: The dream sequence that never was in Padmavati!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali
AFTER HRS CORRESPONDENT | Updated: Feb 15, 2017, 06:50 AM IST, DNA

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali squashed the rumours the next morning by saying that he was not planning to shoot any sequence between Ranveer and Deepika.

After Hrs reported on Nov 6 about the possibility of dream sequence between real life lovers Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone in Padmavati.

It was a speculatory piece, which clearly said that there "may be a scene. It was not a confirmed fact.

Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali squashed the rumours the next morning by saying that he was not planning to shoot any sequence between Ranveer and Deepika. It was just wishful thinking on part of the couples' fans. The director reiterates once again that there is no scene with Alauddin Khillji and Padmavati in his film.

Says a source from the film unit, "There is no distortion of historical facts. SLB has two reputed historians who consult on the script. He has also acquired rights of a few relevant books and he wants to tell the story of Rani Padmavati's courage and fight for her honour. It is a film that will make the world appreciate the true Rajput sentiments.

Rani Mukerji, Prosenjit Come Out In Support Of SLB's Padmavati

National Award winning actor Prosenjit Chatterjee says directors will stop making historical films while actress Rani Mukerji said she stands by the director.

November 25, 2017

Expressing anguish over the row over Sanjay Leela Bhansali's period drama Padmavati, National Award winning actor Prosenjit Chatterjee says directors will stop making historical films while actress Rani Mukerji said she stands by the director.

"It's very hurting... Directors will stop doing historical films the way it has been handled. For a performer, any creative person, they should have their own (voice)... Somebody blaming an actor... because they are paid and are ready to perform their best, Prosenjit said at the India Today Conclave East.

The actor, who has essayed diverse roles in his 35-year film career, says actors are driven to give their best to a character as per the director's vision.

"As an actor, for a performance, for us, only my director and my character are most important and I have to deliver as my director instructs and there should be no issue with that, he said.

Prosenjit lamented that actors today will never chase sensitive portrayals as that of Lalon Fakir, the 19th-century spiritual leader, poet and folk singer of Bengal.

The actor had essayed Lalon in the 2010 Indo-Bangladeshi joint venture "Moner Manush. "I'm suddenly hearing these reactions. Actors (today) will never do a Lalon Fakir.

Prosenjit recalled that he was told in Bangladesh that people started "keeping your image as Lalon Fakir in the calendar and being a Hindu you had done the role and were accepted in Bangladesh.

"Because he is like a God there... I had to deliver as an actor.. they accepted me (a Hindu) as Lalon, he added.

Rani, during her session, emphasised that the society needed to be more loving.

"We need to be more loving as a society, as humanity... We need to go towards love. We have to disassociate with something which is unloving. I believe in love because I am a new mother, Rani said when asked if she believed that a director must have cinematic liberty with historical or quasi-historical characters without facing protests.

Prodded to openly back Bhansali, Rani said the filmmaker knows she backs him.

"Bhansali doesn't need Rani Mukerji to back him on a platform like this. He knows that I back him, love him. He is my darling and Sanjay truly believes how much I love him and he knows how I stand by him. I don't need the platform to express that, added the actress, who worked with Bhansali in Black, which she said changed her "as a person and as a performer.

Why don't RS , Shahid and Deepika make a short video of their views and opinion and post it online.
It is so simple and effective.
