So, last night I decided to watch some older films from my childhood and noticed how important their roles were and how they weren't JUST THE CUTE FACE/SEXY PROP. Yes, there are plenty of older films with major flaws, and even some heroines were just there to be hot and sexy. But to my memory, they weren't just there for 25 minutes in a 2 hr movie, and their character was required to ACT. 😆

So W*F happened? I know sex sells and what not, but seriously...W*F?

Maybe cos nepotism has become more rampant now. Madhuri, Sridevi, Aish etc were outsiders and complete packages. The industry was probably more open to outsiders back then which is why Shahrukh ruled.
There are outsider girls out there who are pretty and talented both but they are not chosen above a starkid. Especially when the industry is becoming more and more full of nepotism kids. Think about it, most of the upcoming heroines and even heroes are insider kids. There are some perfect package insiders too though.

Earlier outsider in bollywood was used for someone who could act and look good onscreen, now outsider means some foreigner who can't speak hindi, or act (kat, jaq), yet keep getting roles because of connections, friendship with A lister or they r PG of someone. there should be balance between outsider and insider to movie the car of the bollywood forward, without outsider they can only drag to certain distance.

Every generation has them...the ones who are in the movie only to sing songs, get kidnapped etc etc and have very limited screen presence- sometimes these are newcomers looking to get a foothold into the industry (Karishma Kapoor, Raveena Tandon in their earlier movies or Parveen babi pretty much throughout her career). Every generation also has actresses who command screen presence (Sridevi, Rani, Madhuri etc) once they've established themselves.

Nepotism? The biggest flowerpots of recent times are two actresses who are complete outsiders! Katrina and Jacklyn Fernandez. The two products or "nepotism" are Kareena and Alia, both tremendous actresses.
Nepotism is just the scapegoat these days. The truth is Bollywood is a fickle shallow industry and looks sell when it comes to women.

Not really sure what this has to do with nepotism? I mean there are flowerpot actresses from nepo and outsider status.

Bollywood in general is in a pathetic state right now. I can't recall one movie this year which had a good story to tell, no memorable roles either for men or women. First they need to encourage good writers and directors and bring back plot based movies instead of following some formula.

Yes I agree. It's not just about the heroines. Bollywood as a whole is in a pathetic state with no proper movies being made. This year has been especially bad. Every movie that I see is either a remake of the old or a biopic. Seriously it needs a good script, a good director, a good actor, a good singer pronto!!!

Its kinda same trend in most industries...Though it aint as worse as BW..But again regional industries were always better in content & acting

Not to get personal with u at all TM,but even the actor in ur dp who is praised to skies here is just mediocre😆.Maybe ppl watching BW alone feel he is some great actor, but in comparisons to veterans of his own industry including his dad,he is nothing much to write home abt.Dull screen presence at times, average charisma and below avg acting skills.I dont know if its a trand with new gen actors, but expressions doesnt seem integral part of acting anymore. Many keep blank faces during intense scenes instead of emoting thru eyes.Another thing is most nepo kids, educated abroad clear lack the desi swag and touch with desi flavour.Dialogue delivery is getting worse with poor command on Hindi/one's own mother tongue. Its all Anglicized

Audience these days are more into movies like Baahubali where costume, technology,VFX and other technical aspects are given more importance than good acting.Prabhas is average at best but with Baahubali people are naming him undeniable talent etc😆.Guess our tastes dont match with majority😆
