Ofcourse everyone does. I'm not even saying that I believe in it but I can understand the reason why out of many superstitions this one has not gotten uprooted yet since the act is harmless and the repercussions of not doing it can be fatal.
If someone's son dies instantly after marrying a girl who could have gone ahead with the procedure but didn't; then it'd be too tough to live with the guilt for all the parties involved.
You talked about probabilities, that even if it is 0.0001% chance of death occurring, why take the chance? Do you apply the same sort of risk analysis every time you get into a car, or a plane? You don't, otherwise we would never leave the house, life is full of risks, but we don't give give up driving or crossing the road just cause there's a risk of death.
And you talk about a son dying instantly after marriage, well what about those marriage with perfect horoscope matches where the son dies immediately after? is that just bad luck? but if a girl is manglik then it's her fault? 😆
