^I loved the movie! I admit it's not for everyone because it has a style and pace that most BW viewers don't like or aren't accustomed to. It's definitely not a badly made movie though. It's just one that polarizes people.

See it for yourself. I wouldn't go by other people's reviews with this one.

JHMS beats Tubelight to become 2nd Highest Overseas Grosser of 2017

08/08/2017

Jab Harry Met Sejal has become 2nd highest overseas grosser of 2017 in just four days of its release. The film is only behind another Shahrukh Khan starrer Raees.

JHMS recorded the highest opening weekend of 2017 by beating Raees. But that was mainly due to the fact that the later was not released in Pakistan and JHMS was the second highest opener of all time there. The trend for JHMS is not encouraging as there were considerable drops over the weekend and on Monday. It is yet to be seen if it can manage to beat Raees.

This year has been dull for Bollywood but the performance in overseas was much worse. Only one film has grossed more than $10 million and we have seen releases from SRK, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Akshay Kumar.

Having watched this film and absolutely loathing it although being a SRK fani beg to differ. I have in this forum seen people putting the blame on the audience and in the outside world SRK is doing the same. Some serious level of condescension about audiences' intelligence.
One can end by saying they loved the movie without patronizing others.

I had said the exact same thing about TAMASHA...that either u love it or u hate it...there is no middle way..I had loved Tamasha BTW😆...looks like most of Imtiaaz's movies are like this...polarizing that is..

I am glad u liked it...just read RTH's review and she said its not a bad movie either and doesn't deserve the panning its getting and she is one of the few members whose review I really trust...so now I am wondering...what happened?? Why so much negativity?😕

The movie has flopped because it did not connected with the masses, neither critics. Yes obviously not everyone is going to hate it, some will even love it. For example I am still baffled and doubting myself as I am the only one in my real life circle who liked Tubelight 😆. JHMS everyone I know called for being boring and having no repeat value. While one of my friend she loved it, but she is a SRK fan.
Anyways I don't think this is right to make it like audience are idiots who will just get distracted by propagandas and hate a movie just based on negative WOM. Every movie has haters, especially rival fans, but if a movie is not liked by majority of people and not just to rival fans, than there must be something wrong right.

^Not really. Mass acceptance doesn't automatically make a good movie and mass rejection doesn't automatically make a bad movie. If it works for you, it's good enough for you. Nobody will convince me movies like Happy New Year are good even if they become big hits. We like what we like and it doesn't need to be determined by how much others like or dislike it.

I even liked Bekifre and I'm not ashamed to say it. I haven't seen Tubelight but the way it seems to be going, I won't be surprised if I end up liking it too. I just don't share the taste that most of the desi audience seems to. Like I thought Dangal was a huge bore though it was well made. It's not that there was anything wrong with the movie but I was yawning and bored out of my mind. Sometimes I think people just automatically start spouting how amazing a movie is because it's made on the right subjects and preaches the right morals or concepts, not for the actual storytelling or artistic ability.

Movies are still a type of art form and it doesn't always mix in the right way with the business prospects. Everyone responds to art differently. It doesn't make them wrong or right.

Its not abt the audience's intelligence but abt perception and judgement.
Overseas audience is more accepting of such romances, while conservative Indian audience was put off by the references to sexuality of the leads.
Indian audience prefers family friendly films which whole family can watch together without getting uncomfortable or embarassed

I keep reading on this forum ki audience are being blamed?? kahan?? kisne kiya balme?? I only blame Shahrukh for the JHMS debacle...arre bhai..25 saal baad bhi agar aapne ye nahi samjha ki audience aapse kya expect karti hai..ya fir aapko ye nahi maaloom ki which script will cater to YOUR audience then its his fault..na ki audience ki...I don't even know ki kaun sa SRK fan audience ko gaali de raha hai..😆
