I read many reviews and posts online regarding their disappointment over the climax. I might be in the minority but I really liked the climax. Mom on the surface level might highlight the victim's psychological distress but when you dig deeper, I feel it's more about Devki's distress over not being approved as a mother. There are several scenes that does show that after what happens to Arya, Devki is disturbed not only because of what happened to Arya but also because the unforseen event meant Arya distancing herself again from Devki.Even while taking revenge, Devki made sure she does not cross the line and become a murderer. The watchman dies because he slips, the brother is paralyzed, the classmate is falsely accused and sent to jail but when Arya calls her mom instead of Ma'am at the end, Devki finally doesn't give a damn about her own future because she now knows her daughter jas accepted her and hence she kills the guy. That, for me was a perfect climax to Devki's character growth in the film.
