It's called dressing up for an occasion. If I were to meet the president today, though I don't like him a lot I would dress up and be respectful to the office. It is called etiquette.

You can be modern, a feminist, wear short clothes and still be mindful of occasion and manners and be modest. Does not make you any less a feminist or a modern person. The two are not mutually exclusive. Also, I dare Mama Chopra to wear what she is wearing in front of Mr.Modi. Whatever. 🤔

Well that's awesome, if that is the culture/tradition of your family but that doesn't necessarily have to be the outlook of every Indian family so there is this trend to generalize.

If the argument is she wasn't formal enough, agreed. If the argument is her legs are showing, umm W*F? We live in a secular country no where is it written I need to cover my body from head to toe. Just because others have done it all this while doesn't mean she has to. In a religious place, it is stated you need to cover up therefore people do. It does not apply here. One would think she's stark naked with the outrage - she was alright.

Am I shouting at my elders? Am I hitting my parents? So if they see my legs ( they have seen me naked when I was a baby) , I don't think it is disrespectful to them in any way. It's who I am, this is the way I dress, I'm not going to pretend otherwise. They know anyway. It's also about like I said what is deemed right/wrong in your family. Maybe in her family they just don't care about this.

I agree with crossing your legs though that's just bad manners.

This is literally the best comment on this whole debate. @bafflingtulip ⭐️

Welcome to the club 🤗. Don't ask me which club?

Not any Aunty or Ammi or Sanskar club, it is COMMON SENSE CLUB😛

Saree isn't for swimming pool.
Meeting head of state and cuddling mommy in some pub is different situation.

exactly what i feel ! its a common sense to dress appropriately when meeting some high officials, parents and so on !

And why can't she wear a bikini?!! Her body!! Her choice!! How dare you have such low indian mentality and regressive attitude? If she wants to wear a bikini to meet the PM, she is sassy af!! The amount of clothes doesn't matter!! She deserves respect and don't you dare s**t-shame for wearing a bikini in a meeting!
