Umm, cannot remember much off hand. I ll try to name a few.

Horror: -

The Exorcist (1973), also considered to be scariest movie of all time. Reportedly, it made some audience members nauseous too. Also its based on a true 1949 story, I read somewhere.

Psycho,

The Conjuring

The Ring

The Shining

The Silence of the Lambs

A Nightmare of Elm Street

Paranormal Activity

Also, forgetting names of some thrillers. Executive decision, The Independence Day are some. Not much idea, but I have heard, I Know What You Did Last Summer is also a thriller.

Science Fiction is my favourite genre both in literature and in cinema.

Start with some of the recent stuff. I should preface by saying that most of these are not your run of the mill movies, the ideas are challenging and apart from Interstellar and The Martian, there is not much if any exposition.

If you are willing to spend time with them, you are in for a treat. Start with the top ones, they are from 2010 onwards and then work your way through the classics.

- Interstellar. I haven't seen any movie that depicts the vastness of space, the immensity of time and Einstein's General Relativity in all its glory as Interstellar.
- Children of Men.
- Arrival. Best movie of 2016 year for me, a first contact movie done right and offer
- Her.
- Ex Machina.
(These are my top five of the 21st century, but really children of men is the earliest at 2006, the rest are all post 2013)

Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian (though I am not a huge fan), Prometheus, Alien Covenant, Minority Report, Snow Piercer, Predestination, Coherence, Fifth Element are some others.

Then go to the classics;

- Blade Runner My favourite movie of all time. The visuals, the score, the strange and hypnotic atmosphere; the richness of its themes from humanity, identity, to modernity; everything about this movie is just stunning.
- 2001 : A Space Odyssey . This one is obscure and takes some getting used too. Its not for everyone but boy is it just fascinating. There is no dialogue for a good first 30 minutes, and it is slow.
- Moon.
- The Matrix.

- Alien. I can't believe I forgot this one. Classic Horror and Sci-fi comibed in one. Ridley's other masterpiece, he used to be so good back then. The atmosphere here too is just incredible just like Blade Runner.
- Solaris and Stalker.Tarkovsky but even more obscure than the above. His movies are more like images taken from a long novel with dreamy prose or poetry given life.

If you want to get into the recent experimental cinema territories go for Under the Skin, Melancholia, Primer and Upstream Colour.

Stars Wars is fine but that is more space fantasy than science fiction. And the I really dislike the recent Star Trek movies, they have ruined what made the franchise so good back in the day. If you want the real Trek flavour, I suggest digging those up.

There is a movie The FLY have you seen it? It's very good but the old one.

And Omega Man with Clint Eastwood or it's remake with Will Smith both are good. I love sci fi too but good ones are so hard to come by. Mostly there are just pretentious long montages of growing grass or fakers like Lucy.

That robot movie with Will Smith is good as well.
