Vidya is definitely better at emoting. Parineeta was brought alive by her eyes alone. Aishwarya on the other hand was a pale shadow of what Rekha was as Umrao....even her dialouges looked forced. She looked beautiful, and stiff. Somehow, when Ash acts, you know she is acting......but she looked drop dead in Dhoom. Bipasha did not stand a chance where looks are concerned after Ash made her entry. On acting department though, Vidya scores, and I think that will come through soon enough. As someone said, Vidya held her ground with the likes of Sanjay and Arshad, a feat in itself.

It's difficult to tell what's right and what's not....I feel a part of it is true and a part exaggerated.

Buffie..i love the way your opinion is always unbiased!

Where acting goes, Vidya has really set her mark after only 2 films!

Hi Aphro! I like your posts and openness, and have found myself on your side in DM. However, this time I have go against.

Vidya Balan did a great role in Parineeta. Her parineeta in fact, was appreciated more than the original by many! That my friend, is really applaud-worthy! Her expression, timing and genuinity were superb given that it was her first movie and that she played opposite commercially successful and bigger stars. She showed her presence and justified parineeta. In her second movie, she had limited scope, but she did her job very well.

How many examples of Ash's overacting should I provide you?
her first movie- luckily forgot the name, opposite Bobby Deol- she was herself- the ice maiden
her first hit HDDCS- did she ever stop screaming and overacting for one second in that?? I remember MUTING her in fact 🤢
Taal- another masterpiece of overacting
Josh- hyped yet busted for not leaving any impression
Devdas - U should really watch Suchitra Sen's Paro and then figure out what exactly was lacking in those eyes..

D2 - I know 80% of the forum will hate me, but seriously, where was ACTING???? what and who was she in that anyway??

Okay, now her Hollywood drama!
Bride & Prejudice- a screaming, irritating Indian girl is what she portrayed, NONE of my american friends likd it
Mistress of spices- relatively better, but could have been better given she is in movies for a decade now!!!

Her masterpiece = Raincoat.. She was ROCKING! really.. no screaming, and beautiful eye expressions (not over the top)

Vidya is showing a great potential to act based on her irst 2 performances. In 10 years from now, I hope to see her trying more variety, as I believe she will succeed in spite of her rather unconventionally pretty looks.

Since you indicated your wish for a comparison, I expressed my views. Enjoy the forum, and I do regard feelings of ASH fans, who will disagree with my jibber jabber.. That's fine with me.😆

Disagree slightly, I thght Ash was gr8 in HDDCS and Devdas. Atleast in HDDCS she was....i loved her in the scene where she was standing on the terrace in tadap tadap.

In devdas, I personally felt Madz stole the show with her dancing and acting but even Ash was good in devdas.....

And don't forget, Provoked....I have seen a few scenes frm the movie. eg. where she's asked to remove her jewellery and clothes, where she describes how her hubby tortured her and one more scene where she begs the court so tht she could see her kids. She was just superb in the movie!

Agree...Ash was truly good in HDDCS....Nandini's character as shown to mature and transform into a woman,from a childish girl,and Ash's portrayal was one of her most nuanced and layered performances!!...Its infact her best performance till date!!

She was brilliant in Taal...It was a very restrained performance,and she did NOT overact!!..Not even in one scene did she go on an overkill of histrionics!!

She was ok in Devdas,somehow I felt Paro's character lacked shades,It looked like routine stuff,no variety !!..She wasnt bad,but wasnt all that exceptional either...And I believe her bengali dialogue rendering made some bengalis cringe,especially as she couldnt render the "ISSHHHH" in the right diction!!

Ash can certainly act,but Vidya's more effortless...Parineeta wasnt an easy movie,Lolita was another layered character who walks the tightrope between egotism and self-respect,and she had so many shades and facets,each portrayed so beautifully by Vidya,that too being a newcommer!!The girl certainly has range:her eyes flared up like headlights at night when she was piqued and were suffused with indulgent softness when she was interacting with Saif. She channeled Lolita's reedy resilience👏...Besides,parineeta per se was a better made movie than Devdas and HDDCS! ..Ash on the other hand has the most beautiful eyes,but seldom uses those to express ,eyes can reflect our thinking,sadly Ash's eyes dont do the talking..And as far as her acting is concerned,her eyes are just objects meant to bewitch,and hardly strikes a chord with the audience,thus leaving alot to be desired!!...Another actor who uses his eyes incredibly well is Hrithik,his eyes expressed so much in the recent Dhoom (pain,agony,mischief,amusement,astonishment,love...),and that's precisely why I want Hrithik and Vidya to do a movie😳😳😳....RAni is yet another actress who emotes so well with her eyes,but I would rank Vidya higher,as Rani isnt really beautiful, whereas Vidya looks divine!

HDDCS wasnt Ash's first movie,Vidya delivered such a splendid performance in her very first movie,and backed it up with a Lage Raho Munna Bhai,where she could have been easily dwarfed by Sanjay Dutt and Arshad(moreso as the movie is their franchise😛)...She left a mark as the effervescent Janavi,and going by the looks of the promos of Salaam E Ishq,she shares a smoking hot chemistry with John,infact they are touted to share the best chemistry in the movie!!..This girl can adapt to any hero,she looked in sync with Saif,endearing with Munnabhai,and totally enamouring with John!!..Something which Ash yet has to achieve,because barring Salman and to some extent Hrithik,she hasnt been comfortable and in sync with any other actor,not even her ex Vivek,or her current BF Abhishek!!...Still extremely fond Ash though😆,but wouldnt call her the best actress nevertheless!!

Agree Buffie....Vidya looks very promising. But Ash is a star---ppl love her to bits and if given a choice, the ordinary person would obviously opt for Ash.

I'm not gonna compare the two coz it's not fair on Vidya or Ash to do so. I don't see why Ash would try to trim Vidya's role down. The script of Guru inherently portrays Ash as the dominant character....Ppl love to hate Ash and this is just one more excuse to do so.....there's no reason for Ash to be SO insecure tht she's gonna indulge in such dirty politics! Yes, there's competition but I dont think Ash would stoop down to this level.

ONe thing I feel Ash has to work on is building chemsitry with her co-stars. Like Anusha said, apart frm Sallu and to an extent Hrithik, she doesn't share gr8 chemistry with any1 else....her ties with the Bachchan family certinaly doesnt help her try to build tht chemistry!

I only said that Vidya is a much better actress and stirrd up a hornet's nest...

Regarding whether Ash has any hand in Vidya's not being featured in the promos and promotions,as I've allready said,Vidya is only playing a supporting character and her role is a small one...Thus its wrong to project Guru as Vidya's movie...(as how it has happened in the past with Mallika Sherawat,she plays "blink and you miss her" sort of roles,but is such a braggard that she makes it appear as though its HER movie,and then garner all the opprobrium when we actually get to see how amazing her "meaty" role was!!)...

Vidya truly can give all top actress the jitters..There were stories that Rani demanded a whole script narration for her forthcoming YRF movie(something she has never asked YRF for before),because initially that movie even starred Vidya,and RAni was jittery of Vidya's presence,especially because she(Rani) had to work extremely hard to get the recognition and success,whereas it has come to Vidya with her very first movie itself...Albeit Vidya still has a long way to go before she achieves all that Rani has,but yet Rani wanted it all to be clear before she proceeds with the movie...Perhaps I wouldnt be surprised even if Ash is a tad insecure of Vidya,its not really her(ash's) fault even if she feels so 😉 ..Nevertheless,I dismiss this article as poppycock,because Vidya has only praises for Ash,she infact calls Ash a very warm hearted person,and the most dignified woman she has ever seen!!...That came from the horse's mouth,I'd rather believe that than some trash Mid day says,especially 'coz mid day is the daily infamous for printing fake news!! 🤢
